Problems with IMAP & QTMail
« on: April 27, 2004, 02:51:49 pm »
I have my own IMAP server on SUSE Linux (using IMAPD). It works fine with Outlook Express under Windows, and Squirrelmail, but I have problems with QTMail.

QTMail works fine with POP3D but when I try to set-up an IMAP account, it tries to download _all_ the folders in my $HOME directory.

Can anyone offer any advice?

Qtmail doesn\'t work with IMAP AFAIK, actually I don\'t think any of the Qtopia based mail apps work with IMAP - tkcMail definitly doesn\'t although tkc has been promising for months.

That\'s confusing because QTmail has IMAP as a choice of protocol.

I have QTmail working with IMAP, but as jimg_uk2000 notices, it is a problem that it downloads all emails in all folders. Because I have a large number of emails at the server, downloading seems to take forever. You can, however, limit the problem by selecting \"Skip large emails\" , and e.g. skip all emails larger than 50k.

Yea, I decided not to use QTmail becuase it didn\'t have date restrictions or even an option to download headers only.

I still haven\'t found an email that allows headers only and date restricions.

Is there anything out there?

My understandoing of it that Qtmail can read from IMAP, but uses it as it would a POP account - ie all email are downloaded locally - which is of course what you don\'t want if you are using IMAP.

Why don\'t you use browser to read mail via web, since you have squirrelmail installed? I do that all the time and it works like a charm (with imap)

when  needs must that \'s what I do, but I find the narrow screen awkward with squirrelmail.
anyway POP3 is working well.
