2 basic getting started questions

I have just tried out the pdxrom (1.0.5) and it looks very cool.  I have two questions

1. in pdxrom how do I manage the insertion / extraction of cf and sd cards? In qtopia roms there is an icon to unmount them prior to removing them.  Is there a similar thing I should do before removing them in pdxrom?

2. I\'m trying to get my linksys WCF12 wireless card working.  I go to the system tools - ] lan and set it up as wifi with the correct essid with mode=managed. This seems to be ok but how do I connect?  The led on the card just flashes and when I try to use the package manager to install packages, it doesn\'t list anything.  By the way, I have installed the pcmcia fix (1.0) package using my cf card.

oh, for reference I have an 860 and if i run xcardinfo the linksys wifi card shows up fine.

1) I can\'t remeber for now if there is any client - but you can normally just insert and remove as you like - of course it shouldn\'t be done while writing to the card.

2) Try reading http://www.pdaxrom.org/index.php?showid=26&menuid=8 - you could also try cardctl scheme CardResume from a terminal - but normally setting everything up with the setting solves.

The pdaXrom is still in development, so normally you should try inserting the card in terminal - and try using the following commands for debugging:
cardctl ident
dmesg
iwconfig
ifconfig -a

and post output here, therby its easier to help you.

no.  If thats what it takes, I don\'t have the time.  I was hoping that pdaxrom would be something that could be installed and used.  I\'m using the tkc rom right now and although I\'d like to try the pdaxrom, I have other things to do (I\'m just starting my own business).  There are things I like about the pdaxrom - both the with rom itself and with the programs in the feed, but if it isn\'t ready for prime time, I\'ll have to leave it for now.

hmm ... guess I need middle mouse button to paste ... anyhow, cardctl ident sees an SMC 2642W,  dmesg complains that get wireless stats was called while device not present, iwconfig says there are no wireless extensions, ifconfig -a sees eth0, and Wireless Monitor claims no wireless cards detected.

I take it it needs to be more fully recognized before I can configure it usefully? What\'s the next step?

Anyone know what assumptions are being made in the WEP settings? Router has the choice of the number of bits and whether hex or ascii, while the Z just has a blank to enter the key, and just entering the same key as the router (with hex or ascii checked there) isn\'t enough to get it working.

Thanks. Now all I have to do is find out the format for the TrendNet router. Their manual gives no format specification at all, and every version I\'ve tried (colon-separated, dash-separated, not separated) doesn\'t work. Meanwhile I\'ve locked to MAC addresses, but of course want both.

Later: The TrendNet and the Z could agree on 128-bit (actually a 104-bit key) but not the 64-bit. The key on the Z works without the \":\"s - maybe with too but haven\'t tested.
