problems with gaim
« on: May 05, 2004, 04:58:32 pm »
Hi folks,
can you help me?

I\'ve had Gaim working on MSN and Jabber but suddenly tonight it\'s not connecting.
When I click the connect icon nothing happens at all, no error messages, nothing.

Can anyone help?

Thanks,

Jim

on closer inspection it turned out to be a problem with libgnutils and libcrypt.  Gaim reported them as missing, although IPKG said they were.  Still I  re-installed them and it worked fine.

I\'m using Gaim 0.31 on Sharp ROM.  Everything runs fine initially, but when starting ICQ and trying to use IM, the program quits automatically.  Could someone advice me how to fix this?  Thanks a Zillion.

I JUST got my Z today and the first thing I wanted to install was GAIM.

Whenever I try to install libgaim-ssl_0.73-1_arm.ipk and libgcrypt1_1.1.9-3_arm.ipk, the installed says \"IPK says something went wrong. Sorry.\"

Ideas?  I have everything the page says I need to have installed but those.  I\'ve gotten them straight from the feed.

try it from console from the directory the .ipk is in

ie:

ipkg install libgaim-ssl_0.73-1_arm.ipk

this will tell you more specifically what the problem is.

awesome.  that seems to have worked.

no graphics come up in gaim, but it loads.  so that is a step in the right direction.

Errr.  It\'s a sim link trick with the gaimpng\'s.  I\'ll see if I can find that link.  It\'s in the forum here somewhere.

Update:

Here it is.

http://www.zaurususergroup.com/index.php?n...pic&p=2794#2794

I had to uninstall libpng12.so.0 and then followed T\'s suggestion.  Worked great.

I have followed the steps in http://qpe-gaim.sourceforge.net/installing.php to install all the following files to my C860:

libglib2.0_2.2.1_arm.ipk
zlib_1.1.2.arm.ipk
gconv-tiny_2.2.4-2_arm.ipk
libgcrypt1_1.1.9-3_arm.ipk
libgnutls7_0.8.10-2_arm.ipk
libgaim-ssl_0.73-1_arm.ipk
libgaim_0.73-1_arm.ipk
libgaim-protocols_0.73-1_arm.ipk
qpe-gaim_0.3-1_arm.ipk

(In addition I also installed  libopie1_1.0.2_arm.ipk 和 libpng12_1.2.5-10_arm.ipk)

The program still quits automatically when I try to initiate IM (by tapping the IM icon in the top left corner of the screen).

Sorry that in the meantime I couldn\'t quite follow the technical discussions.  I would love to hear a simpler explanation for a newbie such as me.  Thanks a zillion again.
