Calling all Win98 Zaurus users! Various questions...
« Reply #15 on: May 12, 2004, 02:06:13 pm »
That could be it.... I don\'t know.  It looks like everything is setup right, but I can\'t see the Zaurus and the Zaurus can\'t see me...

...and the Zaurus doesn\'t seem to recognize a network.  I have the Zaurus and Desktop Zaurus Manager both set to 192.168.129.201.  Zaurus can ping it (since it is itself), but the desktop can\'t.

I tried the COM3 trick mentioned above, but that didn\'t change anything.

Am I supposed to do something on the Zaurus before/after I plug in the USB, or is it automatic?  I don\'t see anything appear on the system icon tray... shouldn\'t some network icon appear?

If there are steps, what are they?  (other than setup steps, since those are already posted).

By the way... when I connect the Zaurus in USB Network mode (this is currently the mode I\'m trying to get working), Win98 adds drivers for it, but nothing new shows up under WinIPCfg.  Shouldn\'t a new network adapter show up on that list?

What IP address should the Zaurus ping to see the Laptop?... the IP address of the Network Card?  (I wouldn\'t think it would be this, because the Network card is the interface to the network, and not to the Zaurus.)

The drivers should create a virtual network card which is the PC end of the connection. This will need its own IP address (which is different from the IP address you set on the Zaurus itself).

I\'ve remembered by CD, I\'ll take a look later today and see whether I can get it to work here.

what does winipcfg show on the desktop?
Go to start menu -] run and type winipcfg

A little program should pop up that shws all the adapters that are currently on the win98 box and the ip address of each adapter.

If you can see the usb network but it doesn\'t have an ip address then you need to check your settings on the windows box - make sure that the tcpip options for the network adapter is set to get ip automatically. If that still doesn\'t work try setting the ip address for the usb network adapter to 192.168.129.1

Yes... it displays the network adapters and their current settings.  I don\'t see a new adapter in there...  In the device manager I see a new adapter installed, but it doesn\'t show up in WinIPCfg.

Also, on the Zaurus, does an icon appear in the system tray when the Zaurus is successfully connected via USB Network?
