SharpROM apps under OZ
« on: November 20, 2003, 05:09:46 am »
I was wondering whether anyone has experience with running apps designed for the original Sharp ROM under OZ, especially the Hancom spreadsheet.

Of course, I\'m asking because Opie Sheet is simply inadequate.

Thanks,

z.

Hancom Sheet seems to work on my Z, I think there may be something which you need to do to get it working (have a look in the OZ FAQ on www.openzaurus.org).

There is a long pause after you start it when there doesn\'t seem to be anything happening BTW.

The only stuff you won\'t get running are the apps from the latest ROMs (3.1x) as they require a load of rubbish running under the surface (I\'ve had them working but it was a lot of hassle and the old hancom apps are just as good IMO, that said, you can get opera 6 which comes with the 3.1x ROMs working under OZ).

Thanks lardman, the FAQ did the trick. For the record, here are the relevant links:

Here is my experience:

I donwnloaded the ipks from hancom.com and tried installing only hancomsheet. It installed allright but would not run. Turned out the .ipk does not contain library files! This is peculiar since both the hancommobileword and hancompresenterviewer .ipks do contain them.

I tried installing hancommobileword but ipkg choked, saying \"no architecture defined\". Turned out the control file contained an empty line! I fixed it, ipkg still bombed with \"couldn\'t find package hancommobileword-etc.\"

I tried installing hancompresenterviewer with exactly the same results.

Finally, I installed hancomsheet, manually extracted the libraries from the hancommobileword .ipk and placed them in /opt/QtPalmtop/lib.

hancomsheet still won\'t start when I tap it. When I run it from the console it starts about half the time. This is not workable but fortunately I found a way around it.

I managed to save an almost-empty spreadsheet during one of the sessions. Now when I tap on the spreadsheet\'s icon in the Documents tab, the sucker runs every time!

Hope this helps someone

I might add that I use OZ 3.2 with opie upgraded to 1.0.

hmm. I\'m now using OZ3.3.5 and was previously using OZ3.2. Both sheet and word work fine and do open from the icon, though there can sometimes be a big delay (esp. with Word) while the fileselector looks for possible candidates for the app in question to open. I\'m glad you\'ve got it working anyway.

If you want to look into why hancom sheet doesn\'t work from the icon you might try starting syslogd (use \'syslogd -C\'), then killing opie, the restart it from the command line (\'/etc/init.d/opie start\') - just selecting restart doesn\'t work - then use \'logread\' to read the output of syslogd after you try starting hancom sheet.

I like the syslogd idea, thanks. But I\'ve just downloaded OZ 3.5.5rc1 so I\'ll see what things are like over there.
