SL5600 - which sniffer program to use?
« on: May 18, 2004, 02:52:59 am »
I just purchased a new SL5600 and am wondering if there are any wireless network sniffering programs that work on the original Sharp ROM or do I need to \"upgrade\" to the OpenZaurus or similar ROM?
Thanks

Morpheus

Hey....how are ya?

This guy <http://www.timekiller.org/howtos/kismet-5600.html> took painstaking time to write up this article...

I have a ZL-5500 3.1 ROM WCF 12

I ignored my phone for about 40 minutes and followed his instructions to the letter...

Success....

What is the right source line to use for the SMC card? Can\'t get that right so far (for a 2642W). Thanks.

I have a SL-5600 with the WCF12 and his instructions worked for it as well.  Don\'t know about any other cards.  If your card is already listed in the config file (the 5600 has the WCF12 listed), you can just confirm and then skip that step.

I have a Pretec card & it works great when I connect to my home network. But I couldn\'t get Kismet to work at all. At one point I could see access points but couldn\'t connect to them. I followed the instructions as given in the various URLs faithfully, one after the other, each attempt ending in failure. I couldn\'t identify the problem, but otherwise my 5600 was able to connect to wireless with the Pretec card \"out of the box\".

(Still) Looking for a suitable case

i'm having the same problem - pretec card, can see my router at home (can't connect yet, but i think that's the router's fault), but i can't "sniff". followed exact instructions and so far, nothing. any help is most appreciated. i have a 5600 with the default sharp rom.
