Netgear MA701 problems
« on: May 20, 2004, 05:50:47 pm »
I just got a Zaurus SL5600.  I picked up a Netgeat MA701 CF card and I cant seem to get the 5600 to notice it.  I have a Linksys BEFW11S4 wireless router and I cant get any thing form the card.

Any ideas?

I have a SL5500 and a MA701.
It just works.
Did you click on network and configure the card?
It should be the wlan interface.
It worked for me with the Sharp, Cacko and OZ3.2 roms.

I also have the symbol card which also worked out of
the box.

DO I need to install the driver that came with the card?  If so how?  The directions for this card stink.

You don\'t need a driver.  Both of the MA701\'s I\'ve had were/are tempermental.  In order for me to use mine with my 5500, I have to first turn on my Z, then insert the card.  The \"link\" light on the card stays off until I enable the card using the preset I set up in the network settings (ok, there were a lot of \"sets\" in that sentence).  Mine also does not work if I reboot while I have the card inserted.  I get best results when I plug in the card after the Z is on for a sec.

The other card I had was sent back to the manufacturer and I got a replacement.  If you still have problems, try to find someone who can test it on another Z or even a PocketPC before you go calling Netgear.  Check out my blog for more details on my dealings with Netgear tech support for my MA701.

The drivers are in the Zaurus already.
Mine is the SL-5500, but they should be similar.
Depending on the ROM version, it should appear as eth0 or wlan.
Insert the card.
Go to the tools page, and select the network.
Select the interface, and click on configure.

If not, maybe someone with a 5600 can help.

I have an MA701 running on on my SL5500 / OZ 3.3.6pre1, the driver for the CF slot is a little flakey...

if when I insert the card:
- the card flashes a couple of times and then goes solid, I\'ve got an ip... good to go
- the card flashes continuously the driver and card are okay, but it hasn\'t found an AP or can\'t get an IP (like WEP turned on but no keys config\'ed)
- the light on the card stays solid (no blinking) then I have to run a cardctl suspend, suspend the Z and resume...  and it should reinit the CF and start going...

I use the netgear card with the stock Sharp ROM (3.10).  I have not difficulties.  Some people have posted here that the card is a bit fragile and sometimes will not make good contact in the CF slot.  I heard that \"wiggling\" or pushing the card back a little allows it to make contact.  This sounded to me like bent pins.  Again, I have not had any difficulties.  If the card refuses to work, I would exchange it while you still can.

Good Luck

Thanks for all the help guys.  I finally got it to work.  It was a settings issue.  (Damn Newbies).  Now all I have to do is get Kismet up and running.
