Best Balance of Most Advanced + Most Stable?
« on: June 03, 2004, 04:00:48 pm »
I had a pretty stable install with OZ 3.2 with an upgraded version of OPIE (.99 I think) a while back.  Since then, I\'ve tried 3.3.6 pre1, and the recently posted 3.3.6 pre1 + OPIE 1.1.4 package.  I\'ve really missed the stability and versatility of 3.2 (I could install and use just about anything and the system behaved), but I really like the newer features (kill doctab, great e-mail client in OPIE 1.1.4)

So, if you are really happy with some configuration, please post about it and vote in the poll.

I use 3.3.6pre1 on both of my Zaurii. It\'s actually more stable to use than 3.2 imho. However the slight (once you know what to do ;-)) hassles getting older programs to run probably puts some people off.

As a newbie, I\'ve found that 3.2 does everything I want and is stable. I\'m trying 3.3.6_pre1 and the version with Opie 1.1.4, and am struggling so far. I can\'t get working some of the simple things like Opieftp, my lan card isn\'t detected as a wifi card and won\'t run (1.1.4 install) , and wellenreiter doesn\'t run on either.

I do however prefer the look and feel of 3.3.6, and look forward to it becoming the next stable release.

For C7xx units, are we talking significant improvements over say August/September 2003.

I had a play back then, and it looked too geared to 5xxx models and a little shakey on c7xx units to play for long.

Might fancy doing some target practice again (try to hit minature x/ok with stylus) if I ever get a free moment.

Works fine on my 750, but as you say the buttons are a little small and there\'s no zoom abilities (yet).

Lardman, what steps, post install, did you take to make 3.3.6pre1 stable?  Also, what Z are you using?

I use 3.3.6pre1 with Opie 1.1.4 on a SL5500G.  So far it is rather stable (much more so than 3.3.5). With the compat libs I got most of the old apps to work.
