5500 Dropped and Dimmed

3 years without slamming it on the ground...and I finally did it.  My 5500 still runs fine, except it is in \"very dim\" mode.  It\'s as if the dimmer controls were set to level 1 (not 0=off).  I am so glad that\'s all it did, but it is unusable everywhere but a dark room.

Anyone have an ideas on what might have happened?  What could I look for when I open it up?

I have already tried resetting it, sliding the dimmer control panel around (in the cradle and out), dropping it again (jk), etc, to no avail.

I dropped mine the other week, and completely broke the CFL tube.  I\'m suprised that the light still works, but is dimmer that it was. maybe the inverter is damaged?
If you open it up, you will see the inverter in the middle with 2 thick wires attached to it that go to the CFL.
I guess you should check the connections to the tube.

BTW, I\'ve got some spare CFL tubes that fit in the 5500 - I had to buy 7 when I found a replacement for mine!

Hi,  do you know where can I get hold of a replacement backlight for my SL-5500 ?   I knocked my Zaurus and
the backlight has failed completely.

 I am in the UK btw.

I got mine from a company called Visualux. They have a larger diameter than the original, but do fit OK.  I would be willing to sell you one if you want to give it a go.
