Install of OZ 3.3.5 on SLC-700 --Resolved
« on: June 17, 2004, 02:25:35 pm »
Hi all,

I wanted to try OZ for the first time, so I grabbed 3.3.5 and flashed it. Everything looked like it worked fine.. when It rebooted, it left the pdaxrom boot logo but had an openzaurus login prompt. Login gave me a base os, with no gui... trying to start opie gave me a bunch of errors that said a bunch of devices were missing. (found in the logs)

Example:
Warning: /dev/dsp does not exist.

Since I was seeing the pdaxrom logo all the time, I assumed the flash didn\'t go correctly.  tried again.. same thing.

A little background.. I got this 700 second hand and it came with Cacko on it.. but modified for the previous user.  So I decided to do a NAND restore... and decided to use the new image off conics to do it... This was successful and I had a functional Zaurus again.. in Japanese

So... then I got the files for OZ 3.3.5 again. The md5 checksum\'s were correct.. and I proceeded to flash the ROM. Same thing. Looks like a base file sysetm is installed with no GUI.

Other odities:
I never see an OZ boot logo.. isn\'t there one?  Oh.. and in the terminal when you get to the bottom line of the screen.. all further output is written to that line and it does not push the history up the screen... Also, second install seems to have rendered my wi-fi unusable.. (It worked on first install)

Any help is appreciated!!

Did you also flash the openzaurus zImage.bin?

Yes... The files I had on the CF when I ran the flash were: initrd.bin,  zImage, and updater.sh

I had to get the updater.hs from a different link though: http://www.openzaurus.org/official/unstabl...ble/3.3.5/C700/

Interestingly... 3.3.6_pre1 worked like a charm... with one exception.

The bottom eigth of an inch on the screen, is blurred...   weird.

And any stylus input on near the corners of the screen seems to fail....

This is wrong. You didn\'t flash the kernel because the c700 updater.sh looks for zimage.bin, not zImage.

Do you mean on 3.3.5? Or on 3.3.6_pre1? Or both?

OK..  Thanks Mickeyl. That was the problem... Funny that the install didn\'t complain.  Also, where did you find the file name instructions? I was following the instructions off the download page?

oz.org is hopelessly outdated and only contains information for 5500. I\'m not sure why the OZ project founder doesn\'t care about the website rot, but there is nothing I can do about it. Please complain to him.
