qtmail crashes after receiving a few messages
« on: June 18, 2004, 10:25:37 am »
Im running a zaurus 5500 with sharp rom 3.10, im using qtmail in whihch i linked the /home/zaurus/Applications/dtm directory to my SD card.  There are 17 messages in my inbox that will not delete, or move, as when i delete them it removes them, but as soon as I start qtmail again, they are still there, and no it is not downloading them again.  When I do tell qtmail to get new messages, it downloades about 10 messages and then quits the program.  Upon starting it again, the 17 messages are there and none of the 5-10 messages that it attempted to get.  Any ideas?

Try putting them back into your /home... directory instead of linking them to the SD. Might be a bad file on the SD, or bad filesystem. Is the SD a Sandisk card? Did you format it to ext2 (if so, check the permissions). Also might want to try running fsck on the SD.

Hope that helps,

Its a cannon sd card, it was taken from a digital camera, i never formatted it on the zaurus.  When I run fsck it doesn\'t do anything just says paralizing fsck, so I assume it isn\'t ext2, could that be my problem.  It looks like it re-downloads those 17 messages already in inbox and then crashes.

If you\'ve never formatted it, then it\'s almost certainly formatted as fat16.
First of all, I\'m assuming you\'ve set it up as POP and you\'re trying to download mail to your unit directly (ie.. not syncing).

You can try moving the /home.../dtm/slinbox*.* to somewhere else (to fool qtmail into thinking there is no mail file) and see if it starts from scratch. Your inbox dtm files might be corrupted. You can also try moving all of the slinbox*.*slinunrd*.* slmtrash*.* sloutbox*.* files somewhere else to really start from scratch.

I reformatted the SD as ext2, and I moved all the files from /home/zaurus/Applications/dtm to a temp directory on the sd.  It still chokes on downloang after the 17th message.  Weird.  ANy other ideas?  Should I try reinstalling qtmail?  Is it possible without flashing?  Thanks for the help so far.

Oops, I didnt mean for you to try accessing it somewhere else - I meant by asking you to \"move the files somewhere else\" to back them up (ie. throw them into \"/home.../dtm/backup\"), and removing them from the /home.../dtm directory. That way qtmail is still trying to get it from /home.../dtm but the files are no longer there (so it\'s forced to create new inbox files). It looks like the file is inhibiting the download, therefore accessing it from a different location isnt going to help (something you found out!).

even after moving the files, and trying to run qtmail, it still craps out after recieving the 17th message.  the 18th message isn\'t irregular or anything.  I\'m all out of ideas.

Just off the top of my head, when I sync stuff over from outlook, the sync process seems to have issues with people that have an email that is \"certified\" (i.e. the has an attachment that is a certificate of authenticity). Given that I dont know if you\'re synching email from outlook or connecting directly, this might be a source of error.
Failing that, have you tried removing the 16th, 17th and 18th messages (where the problem seems to start +/-1 message to be sure)?
There\'s also a newer version of qtmail that just came out - there\'s a chance that a fresh install will help things (maybe the lib got corrupted?).

Sweet Jesus, this problem is resolved, The email server is Nat'd through a firewall, so I put the actual internal IP of the mail server rather than the hostname that routes to the firewall.  Next thing I know, I got 750 newly downloaded messages.  Who would have thought!!!!  Thanks for all your help!

was just googling the current state of zaurus->Linux sync and came across this post...curious how you are syncing the 3.10 ROM with evolution? I have an sl-5600 and want nothing more than to be able to sync with Evolution.

Thanks.
