Can any of you see the icons on the buttons with Gaim?  I did an install this past weekend and I can chat but I have no pictures on the buttons.  I looked at the bug reports on sourceforge and found a reply that gave an extra library to install and some symlinks but that didn\'t seem to work for me.

I installed qpe-gaim v.4 on my 760 with cacko rom and I got the same as you, no icons/graphics in the gui.  I submitted a bug via the qpe-gaim bug page, but it hasn\'t been looked at.  I think there\'s only one developer (chipx86?) working on qpe-gaim, so it might be a bit before the bugs are fixed.

funny, v.2 worked just fine on my 760 before... I still have the files for that version (somewhere on my cf)... maybe I\'ll just go back to that version

Strange. Maybe there is a bug in the v0.4 packages. I still have icons, but I upgraded from v0.3.

Good news: tumnus, your reinstallation tip worked, so the Z is back as it was before (i.e. working!). Thanks again!

Bad news: I\'ve got the same problem as offroadgeek and others - finally got gaim to run, but there are no GUI features at all (buttons, etc.). I had to install libpng, as starting gaim from the terminal gave me the \"where\'s libpng?\" message; once I installed that, I tried running gaim (again, from the terminal), and got a whole slew of error messages before the program started.

AFAICS, the program is unusable in this state - does anyone have a fix, or will we have to wait for a new package from the qpe-gaim team?

At least I have a functional Z again...

Thanks,
Tim

I just grabbed the older v.2 files from my CF and put them in the ZUG downloads... you can grab a zip of them here.

This version worked for me on my 760 with the cacko rom... it may at least get you a working version in the mean time.

I keep forgetting about all the little tricks I did to get Opie apps working on the Sharp ROM. Perhaps I should write a Howto.

Anyway, I didn\'t install libpng as there\'s a little cheat you can do. libpng has been compiled into the Sharp version of libqte, so all you have to do to get libpng is run this command as root:

ln -s /home/QtPalmtop/lib/libqte.so.2.3.2 /usr/lib/libpng12.so.0

I can\'t think of anything else I did though. What are the other errors you get?

I just un-installed libpng, and ran tumnus\' link command as root instead. This fixed my Gaim! Thanks tumnus!

It was wild. The second I created the link, the icons appeared in Gaim (it had been running while I worked in terminal).

Slightly OT, but not too far:

Being completely new to IM (I\'m experimenting with it to communicate with two old friends in the town I recently moved away from), I don\'t know what\'s involved with getting IM clients working through a NAT firewall. At home, I have a broadband connection going through an SMC Barricade router, with a wireless access point for our laptop and my Zaurus.

Basically, I have two questions to help me get started with qpe-gaim:

(1) Can IM clients work behind a firewall, without needing to set up any port forwarding?
(2) If the answer is no (as I suspect), please could someone point me to some information on which ports to open?

Many thanks!

Tim

AFAIK there is no problem being behind NAT or a firewall for that matter.  They work for me.  AIM and others are server based so you log in to the server and messages are passed back and forth by way of the server.   The only time that I think that you\'d have problem is if you tried a peer-to-peer model or possibly a brokered service but all the ones that I use are server based.

Hey Tumnus, would you also happen to have any magic that would make the sounds work?

I use gaim behind a firewall without port forwarding. gaim uses these local ports:
----------------------
port state protocol
----------------------
3028 ESTABLISHED TCP
3029 LISTEN UDP
3030 LISTEN UDP
3031 LISTEN UDP
3032 LISTEN UDP
