About Roms

I have tried out OZ 3.5.1 as soon as I got my Z couple weeks ago, but I couldn't seem to get any snes emulator to work.  All I want to do is to play some emulator roms, listen to mp3s, and do some development work (c/c++, python, ruby, java) on it.  Which rom should I use?  One of the reasons that I chose 5500 is that so I can use the entire 64mb memory.  I have tried out oz, debian+crow, and crow, and so far oz seems to perform the fastest on SD, while crow with updated kernel works ok, but whenever I resume from a suspend, SD card seems to have trouble remounting.  If there is working snes emulator, media player, and compilers/interpreters, I would be happy to switch to OZ.
