New CL750
« on: June 30, 2004, 12:40:39 pm »
I just bought a CL750, and this is my first experience with a linux handheld.  I noticed a couple of mentions of ROM upgrades, how do I tell if I need an upgrade?  Do I go to Sharp, or are there better 3rd party ones available?  Also, I installed Opera but it briefly opens, then closes again.  Any ideas??

Current:  Metrowerks OpenPDA
              Version 1.0

             Qtopia for Open PDA
             Version 1.5.4

             Linux Kernel
             2.4.18
             ROM version 1.10 JP

Thanks everyone!!

hmmmm.
get ready for the ride!

the first question is -- what do you want out of your PDA?  What do you expect?

If you want a PDA with PDAish type things... such as PIM, etc... perhaps
think staying Sharp ROM and/or OZ/OE when it (next) comes out.

If you want a pocket workstation -- perhaps think pdaXrom -- see www.pdaxrom.org

Since you said that you are new to linux handhelds -- does this mean that you are
also new to linux?

Well, I have a Tungsten T2, a Tapwave Zodiac, and an iPAQ 4350, so my PDA functions are covered.     I wouldn't mind letting loose with thing and really exploring PDA capabilities.  I have a little Linux experience, we have 4 Linux servers at work but mostly all I do is some Networking (Adding users, setting permissions, etc)  but no source code or programming experience.  I guess I am leaning toward the pdaxrom version.

Cacko, cacko, cacko!
Gorgeous C860, 256 Sandisk SD, 1Gig Pretec 40x CF, PDAIR leather case & the really cool retractable iPDA USB sync/charge cable. Powered by PDAXROM BETA 1.

My wish - to have a Command & Conquer style game on my Z! (FREECNC!!!) Simcity 2000 would also be great.

By the way, how do I go back to the original ROM if I screw up or don't like it???  I can't seem to find any ROM's for the 750 at the Sharp website, only 5500/5600.
