Doom What am I missing?

I followed the howto and installed all packages, but when I click on the icon, It just hangs for a bit and then nothing.

Please help.

both doom and prdoom not found....

where are they located?? (yeah, I am a newbie  )

errm .. offhand .... I don't know for sure -- I'll edit this post later if what I find is different from what I tell you,

try:

cd /home/QtPalmtop/bin
doom

that should run prboom with the doom1.wad file.

First check in the directory jdralphs suggested, that the files are there, if so, make sure they are marked executable, if not make them so (chmod +x prboom or doom)

I've installed prboom before and it wasn't executable, never found out why but it's happened with other apps.  Install them on another occasion and it works, me na know why.

Okay, I got prboom running....(after going to the correct directory....also was typing prDoom)

Has anyone managed to get it to play right side up in landscape...if so, how?

Answering my own message, I have discovered that the problem seems to lie with the demodoom wad file, because I have installed the shareware wad file Doom1 and it runs.

Now all I need to do is to find the control keys !!

What machine are you using?

Tried zport 4 and 5 and now it rotates portrait with tiny screen instead of upside down.

What machine and exact verion of libSDL are you using?

I *think* the zports stuff is really for C series machines not 5x00's, the SDL found on the likes of http://killefiz.de/zaurus/ is better for the 5x00's.

The zports one, evidently is better for the C series, but that always ran all SDL based apps upside down, so I avoided their stuff. YMMV.

Please correct me if I've got my facts wrong.

I've had this problem with my 5600.  Apparently, I needed libsdl to set qtrotation of 2 and that fixed it.  Unfortunately there is no way that I know of to set this except in the source of libsdl.   I managed to compile a version that works for me.  Check the website link on the bottom of this message.  Dont know if it will work for you though.  Mteira is currently trying to add support for the 5600 rotation in zports.  Maybe he can add a special case for your zaurus type.  An option to set this using environment variables would probably be better though.

By the way, landscape mode for me means the buttons on the 5600 are on the right side.

Okay. I have doom running but the best I can do is get it in portriat mode with all the buttons to the left.  It's playable but landscape would be alot nicer.


BTW, to get it to use the whole screen in portrait mode run it on command line and quit.  Then scroll up until you find the reference to the config file in the hidden directory.  Highlight it (which copies) then vi and paste (top right clipboard icon) and find the screen_width and screen_hieght....but remember it runs PORTRAIT so it should be a width of 480 and height of 640.

Then it will use the whole screen.  If you mess up the screen will be unreadable and reset will be needed.

Anyway, could some tell me how to get this running in landscape mode right-side-up ?!!!!!!!?

the latest version of the zports sdl runs great, and with correct orientation... give it a lash and see for yourself.   It seemed to break snex9x though if i remember...
