I wouldn't assume that it is scam - it is too professional in web site design and the marketing story is too much based on innovative technology. A real scam would not spend so much money on those aspects.
I rather suspect that a small group of enthusiasts somehow got venture capital (something like the IBM Fellows who got a budget and were allowed to e.g. develop an IBM PC) and was able to complete the project (5 years ago I had the opportunity to evaluate an investment/partnership into such a project). I can really imagine a great engineering team supported by a marketing consultant, now sitting there and waiting for orders - which won't come as (fast) expected.
There are a lot of interesting ideas in and I hope that they do not fall into the same trap as Apple did with the (first) Newton - having great technology but the market was not at all ripe for it. Market development for new technologies costs more money than developing a product.
I have sent them the question whether it runs Linux...
