IS OZ 3.3.5 reliable and stable
« on: July 13, 2004, 07:20:51 am »
Hi all !

I hesitate to flash my SL 5500 from OZ 3.2 to OZ 3.3.5, I would like to know your experiences about OZ 3.3.5.
My main usages are :

- mail
- addressbook
- web browsing
- text
- nmap, kismet, etc
- wlan
- audio & video (not create, just read !!)
briefly all is already possible with OZ 3.2...

Is it reliable and is there any big bugs that I have to know before to flash ?

Thanks in advance

Hi,
I am using OZ 3.3.6-pre1 with opie 1.1.3
It crashes no more and comparable with 3.2 in the point of stability and very perfomant.
But it needs a lot of work to get it stable and you have to read a lot.
I am running Mediaplayer2, Scummvm, Latex, Hancom, jeode+apps, dviviewer, opera, wlan and a lot of other nice things on it and also moved home, root and opt to a 10MB/s SD Card.
Be carefull with update. I couldnt go back with the backup, but a backup from opie 1.0.3 was no problem for 1.13 to read (Addressbook, Calendar and Todo)
Cheers,
Sam

For me OZ3.3.5 was less stable than OZ3.2 and OZ3.3.6pre1 is more stable than both. I have no stability troubles with 3.3.6pre1 - I am using the default Opie 1.0.3(?) though rather than the later version.

The only 'problem' with 3.3.6pre1 is that you need to use the compat libs (but it's not really a problem IMHO).

The one and only annoyance with 3.3.6pre1 is that I can't get xmms to compile for it, and the old version won't work. This means you either have to use opie-mediaplayer2 (which works fine, but I prefer the xmms interface) or mplayer from the command line.

Go for it!

Hi,
I have the same problem with xmms. I tried to Compile it with openembedded.
I used oemake, and so it wanted to build the dependencies and failed building tslib. There is a patch to compile tslib with gcc3.2.?, but it didnt applied.
Also oebuild failed.
I loved xmms on oz 3.2
I am also interessted in scummvm0.6.0
I tried the packages from:
http://cmisip.home.insightbb.com/zaurus.htm
But the are not found by ipkg. I couldnt unpack scummvm to have look at the control file and pack it  in the oldgnu format, so that oz ipkg can find it.
So hoping
Cheers,
Sam
PS:
Here is a nice image 3.3.6-pre1 Image with opie 1.1.3:

You have to remove symlinker, before you insert a card first time. The firstboot should be also without any card, because the mediummount dialog menu in first boot is somehow too big and you cant reach the okay button. After first time mediummount works normal.
Then use the alternative mmcda module (for 5500), to get sd card fullspeed:
http://www.zaurususergroup.com/modules.php...download&sid=52
Then use this workaround for the cardmgr problem:
https://www.oesf.org/forums/inde...&hl=resume++fix
Now you should have a solid as a rock bleeding edge 5500. The default installation is German, so you have to choose english, when it asks for language at firstboot.
I dont know the solution for the C Series
It is tricky to update 1.0.3 direktly to 1.1.3, so this rom is easier
1.1.3 looks really nice!

Have you had any luck with your keyboard on oz-3.3.6-pre1 ?

I downgraded becasue I couldn't get mine to work, but other than that it was very nice to use, except that if I tried to install from the file manager (have it open in packages) it terminated with a SIGSEV error.
