Problem installing openzaurus
« on: July 19, 2004, 12:16:18 pm »
I just tried to install openzaurus on my 5600 with a stock Sharp rom. I downloaded 3.3.5 from oz and put on my flash card. I opened battery, pressed reset and closed. Pushed on and ok at same time. It asked me to reset so I did. Pushed on and ok again and files were installed. But then it asks for openzaurus login. I tried several combinations but nothing worked. What am I supposed to enter when I am asked to login, or did I install wrong? Now I am unable to get in to my 5600 at all. Can someone help please? Thank you.

username is probably root, no password, then try running '/etc/init.d/opie start'

Actually probably best to do some trawling of the other threads about OZ on the 5600 just to be sure.

Thanks for the quick reply. I am at work now so will try your suggestion later. I did try root before and looks like I got a command line, but I didn't know what to do. THere have been some posts about openzaurus on 5600 with some tips to make it work but nothing that seemed to address my particular problem.

OK, when I type the command '/etc/init.d/opie start'  I get "starting opie-login with syslog logging......." and then it goes back to the root prompt and stays on the command line screen.

Try typing logread to see what the log said.

I've seen people talking about this before wrt 5600s, try trawling the posts containing 5600 in the title in the OZ section of the forum. Also take a look at the mailing list (available from contacts page on www.openzaurus.org).

Sorry I can't be of more direct help,

ok msjones I was having the same problem but i finally managed to get 3.3.6pre1 workinf on my 5600 the problem was a minor one. it might be the same with you. I downloaded the following files ipks.tar, initrd.bin, zImage, updater.sh on my CF card. Make sure that the file names and extensions are correct. If you are using IE as you browser watch out when you save the file it seems to change the extension for some unknown reason. So i recommend going to the command prompt and checking the extensions. For reflashing follow the instructions on the following website http://cmisip.home.insightbb.com/zaurus.htm. You should be good to go.

Yup cooldude26_in,
3.3.6pre1 worked.  Flashed and came right up. It looks nice but it does have a few quircks. Got the screen to stop scrolling with echo 1 > /proc/sys/kernel/printk  but the time changing after reboot is a pain. I wish there were a list of tips for this rom on the 5600 all in one place instead of scattered around the forums. Right now I am trying to get ssh working. I am able to ping my desktop from the Zaurus but I cannot ping the Zaurus from the desktop. Any tips would be appreciated.

What are the two IP addresses at each end of the connection?

Strange you can ping from Z->desktop but no the other way round (otherwise I might have blamed a firewall).

Well, my problem is I don't understand networking that well. Do you mean what is in my /etc/resolv.conf?

In the IP address of interface setup under networking on the Z I have 192.168.129.1, subnet mask 255.255.255.0, Gateway 192.168.129.0. Ethernet is enabled. I also have loopback enabled and set to automayically bring up. I'm not sure what to check under my desktop, all I can say is I had things working with Sharp standard rom (ssh and samba). Probably just got lucky. I dualboot xp with Fedora, but would like to get Fedora working first. If you need me to print out anything just let me know what you need.

Ok, it appears that I needed to reboot my desktop with the Z on and in the cradle. Now I am pinging both ways!

The resume seems alittle buggy. When I turn off the Z and turn back on the resume/suspend window comes up and says it will suspend in 30sec. I click cancel but it doesn't react right away and freezes. Then it accepts cancel. This happens if it's in the cradle or not. Any fix for this?
