Had a chance to actually use a Sony UX50, the one that was copied from C7xx design.

It seemed a little smaller than the C760 and slimmer too. On the landscape mode, I could only use 3/4th of the screen the other 1/4 was taken by the grafitti area. Looks like a hard grafitti panel instead of a soft one. Maybe I\'m mistaken, maybe there is a way to get the screen to show without the grafitti panel...

Also I noticed, the screen is nowhere as bright as C760 and the keyboard sucked! Wondering how come no review actually mentioned these shortcomings?

On the otherhand, the palm OS looked much nicer on the Sony! And it has bluetooth!

Yeah when I was looking for a PDA about this time last month (Early Nov 2003) I was torn between the Sony UX50 and the Sharp Zaurus C760.

I liked the fact that the UX50\'s keyboard lights up, I use my PDA a lot in bed with the light out for midnight surfing

As for power though, I think it was quoted that the UX50 has only a 150MHz CPU, not fast enough for DIVX

Someone at work got one, and I must say I really like my c760 better hardware wise. Software wise the 760 is also fine for me, though for most people the ux50 would have a leg up.

The UX50 grafitti area is a virtual graffiti area. An arrow on the utmost right upper corner expands the desktop to full size.

All this was notices on my visits to BestBuy. Dont own one. Though I have to agree that the software is indeed much more matured and easy, as well as the desktop looks attractive.

The keyboard is indeed bad, but reviews have mentioned the keyboard as a good thing. Obviously they hadn\'t seen the C700 series keyboard.

I actually thought the software looks pretty ugly compated to OPIE More functional yes, but definitly uglier.

Me too. The UX50 doesn\'t impress me much except for its form factor and built-in BT and Wifi. My brother bought one when we visited a local demonstration session by Sony. But I feel that the Z is a superior one, though I haven\'t placed my order yet.

I\'m not sure where this copied from sharps has come from sony has been making clamshell pda\'s for ages they just finally listened to their customers and turned it around.

It\'s not as if sharp were the first to make a clamshell PDA either..

Maybe I\'m wrong, but I\'ve never heard of a pda that morphs from a \'pda\' design to a clamshell before sharp came up with their C700.

Laptops yes, pdas no. I haven\'t heard of sony pdas do this.

sony nv and nx series.
And the idea is well used in tablet pcs
