All,
I am back to using my c860 after a 6 month break and would really like to continue using it. Does anyone know the real status of the TKC ROM. I read that proto has been gone for the last 6 months also. Is he going to work on the ROM anymore? Is his live feed site for updates going to come back online?

Has any other ROM superceded the TKC ROM for the c860? What ROM are most people using on their cx60?

Thanks for the quick response. How does this ROM compare to the last TKC ROM? How is the performace. The last (approx. 6 moths ago) I heard was that the X11 based ROM was slow performing and sluggish. Is this still the case?

The tkcROM seems to be no longer developed, I asked a few times what happened to Proto but I'm still not sure.

pdaXrom is an option, but is X only, not Qtopia compatible so it may not be helpful. You can't really compare pdaXrom against a Qtopia ROM since they are very different and work very differently.

You will find Cacko's QT ROM is very popular (by the same people who do pdaXrom), is 100% English and has some very nice features, especially if you apply the latest 'hotfix', you'll find it here on ZUG if you do a search.

Yes, that helps a lot. do you know where I can find a comparison of the Cacko's QT ROM and the X ROM. What would the advantages or disadvantages be between the two. Also, what does the hotfix add? Thank you.

As for the the Cacko ROMs..
Like I said, I'm not sure if you can compare the two, they are very different. You could say that Qtopia ROMs are more geared to using the Zaurus as a PDA with PIM tools, syncing and wot not. pdaXrom is more like a desktop Linux and uses standard apps designed for the desktop - but is naturally slower, some PIM stuff, no syncing and makes the Z like a tiny laptop. If you need a "PDA" then stick to Qtopia based ROMs, if you want to use it as a tiny laptop, go for pdaXrom, but you will probably need more Linux knowledge for pdaXrom than you would for the Qtopia ROMs.

I assume you've been using Qtopia with the standard ROM or tkcROM, the Cacko QT ROM is the same thing, however, unlike tkcROM it IS being actively developed. The hotfixes correct any bugs discovered, but the last one Hotfix B also adds a really nice swapfile manager which allows you to add more memory when needed, the look and feel is probably not as pretty as the tkcROM, but that may change with the next release, who knows ;-)

Thank you very much. You have done an excellent job summerizing. I will use the Cacko QT ROM since I need sync support. How is the Bluetooth support on that if you know? I have a Rev. F socket bluetooth card.

Not too sure there I'm afraid, I guess it would work as I've seen mentions of it in the Cacko QT ROM threads, but I've never used Bluetooth devices. I have a morbid fear of devices discreetly communicating without wires ;-) LOL!

Yes, it will, but I have no idea yet what it will look like. We need to find a set of nice and distinqushable icons under GPL. But anyhow we do have plans to make ROM look nice and there are some people in this forum helping us.
