CF wired Ethernet card - recommendations?
« on: July 28, 2004, 12:32:15 pm »
Good day!

Does anyone have a recommendation, either pro or con, for a wired Compact Flash Ethernet card?  I'd like to pick one up for added connectivity options, but I'd like to get one which has a high rate of compatibility and/or decent throughput.  So, I'm looking to hear what you're using and what your experience has been, either good or bad.

Thank you very much!

Dana

First of all, let me say that your avatar and member number scare the hell out of me.

I've been using the Hawking CF686TX for probably a year now with my SL-5500, and it has worked with every ROM out there (I've tried them all).  Too bad amazon doesn't have them anymore.

TRENDnet TE-CF100 works well for me (SL-5500 & Sharp 3.x ROM) & can be found pretty inexpensively on the 'net.

I'd second on that card. It's pretty big, but it works just fine, has 6 (six) lights and pretty cheep ($30 or so)

I have a Socket Low Power Ethernet card for an SL5500 - worked straight out of the box with Sharp rom 2.12, but not with Sharp rom 3.10.  Have not got either Sharp or Socket to admit to needing to fix the problem

I am using a Zaurus 6000-SL and it looks like the support for wired CF cards has gone backwards. I have just spent two hours hacking the Zaurus to accept a Socket 2900-117 LP CF adapter. The pcnet_cs module is not part of the standard software installation and I had to build one myself. Then, the net.agent and network scripts are buggered. I have hacked  a script to do this manually, and have not
managed to check the problem with the "official" scripts yet...

BTW, the card works fine...

I have a Pharos 10/100baseT wired CF network card.  Used it without problem with several versions of OZ and Sharp roms.  I haven't used it with any of the more recent releases as I went to all WiFi networking.  I don't use it anymore, and will be sending it to another member of these forums.  I think I got it for about $35.00.  Good card, never had a problem with it.  If the other member decides he doesn't want it, I'll let you know.
