Extracting Cyrillica and Unicode keyboard fm Cacko
« on: July 29, 2004, 06:30:21 am »
Hi,

I'd like to try use the Cyrillica keyboard on the defaul Sharp ROM, so would like to copy the files that it uses.

These are the files that I've copied:
/home/zaurus/Applications/cyrillica/*
/home/zaurus/Settings/cyrkbd.conf
/home/zaurus/Settings/keyhelper.conf
/opt/QtPalmtop/bin/cykbdset
/opt/QtPalmtop/bin/keyhelperconf
/opt/QtPalmtop/plugins/inputmethods/*
/opt/QtPalmtop/plugins/applets/libkbdapplet*

But I must've not gotten everything, since I restarted and now can see the CyrKbd input method, but don't see the little icon in the tray on bottom right, allowing me to select the layout.

I've found the Cyrillica app at http://my-zaurus.narod.ru/cyrinput.html but it seems to be an old version...

Can anyone help me?

I'd also like to copy the Unicode keyboard, which is included in the files I've copied and I can select it as input method now, but only see the Basic Latin, Latin-1 Supplement, and Currency Symbols, nothing else.

Thank you.

Best regards...

Have you actualy tried it? It's supposed to be the same version that came with 1.21 ROM.

Yes, I tried it, it's an incomplete package, i.e. some files must be missing from it.

To be specific:
The package on that site only contains these files:
/home/zaurus/Settings/keyhelper.conf
/home/zaurus/Settings/keyhelper.xml
/opt/QtPalmtop/bin/khctl
/opt/QtPalmtop/plugins/iputmethods/libcyrinput.so
/opt/QtPalmtop/plugins/iputmethods/libcyrinput.so.1
/opt/QtPalmtop/plugins/iputmethods/libcyrinput.so.1.0
/opt/QtPalmtop/plugins/iputmethods/libcyrinput.so.1.0.0

So that when you install it, you can select CyrKeyboard as the input method, however the virtual keyboard that pops up is empty, i.e. no characters shown, just blank keyboard grid.

So I went and copied the following files from the Cacko ROM file structure:
/home/QtPalmtop/apps/Settings/CyrKeyboard.desktop
/home/QtPalmtop/apps/Settings/keyhelperconf.desktop
/home/QtPalmtop/bin/cyrkbdset
/home/QtPalmtop/bin/keyhelperconf
/home/QtPalmtop/pics/CyrKbdSet.png
/home/QtPalmtop/pics/keyhelperconf.png
/home/QtPalmtop/pics144/CyrKbdSet.png
/home/QtPalmtop/plugins/applets/libkbdapplet.so.1.0.0
/home/QtPalmtop/plugins/inputmethods/libcyrinput.cf
/home/QtPalmtop/plugins/inputmethods/libqhandwriting.cf
/home/QtPalmtop/plugins/inputmethods/libqhandwriting.so.1.0.0
/home/QtPalmtop/plugins/inputmethods/libqunikeyboard.cf
/home/QtPalmtop/plugins/inputmethods/libqunikeyboard.so.1.0.0
/home/zaurus/Applications/cyrillica/*
/home/zaurus/Settings/cyrkbd.conf

This is slightly better, the virtual keyboard that pops up now has characters in the grid, however it's only the English keyboard.

You can select the different layout to add in the Settings => Keybord app, however there isn't that little green box in the task tray that lets you switch the keyboards. So you can't switch them.

What should I copy also? I thought that this tasktray keyboard was the libkbdapplet.so.1.0.0 file?

Also I don't see the Unicode keyboard and handwriting as an input method, maybe I should have copied more than just the
/home/QtPalmtop/plugins/inputmethods/libqhandwriting.cf
/home/QtPalmtop/plugins/inputmethods/libqhandwriting.so.1.0.0
/home/QtPalmtop/plugins/inputmethods/libqunikeyboard.cf
/home/QtPalmtop/plugins/inputmethods/libqunikeyboard.so.1.0.0
files?

Can you advise?

Thank you.

OK, I got it, I had to create some symlinks to make it work.

If anyone is interested, I've put Anton Maslovsky's Cyrillica with KeyHelper into an IPK file, so that you can install it on a Sharp ROM. You can get it at: http://ShiroiKuma.com/peiji/hoka/peiji/lin...yHelper_arm.ipk

The only question I would like to ask still is about the Unicode Keyboard.  I can select it as input method now, but only see the Basic Latin, Latin-1 Supplement, and Currency Symbols, nothing else. In the Cacko ROM, there's many more options.

Perhaps I've missed some files to also copy?

Thank you.

Later.

You need fonts with unocode caracters. You can search for such fonts, I've seen a few of them on the net.

I have one full Unicode font on the system, it's the kani-font that comes with the KanjiNirvana package. So that's fine.

The only thing is I can't figure out how to specify to the virtual keyboard to use this font for display.

I've made an InputMethod.conf file in the Settings directory, where I specified under the [UniKeyboard] header FontName=Unifont, but no change.

Where should I make the config change?

This is from 1.21b readme:

Code: [Select]
- Added support for different font for on-screen keyboard.
To use different font, add the following section in corresponding keymap file, ex.:

[font]
Helvetica

Oh, perhaps we're talking about two different things. The readme file refers to the keymap files for Cyrillica right? There's no problem with that, I've specified the font in all the different keyboards.

But I'm talking about the Unicode Keyboard input method. It has no keymap file, so where do you specify the font there?

Sorry, I missed that part. As for Unicode Keyboard - the font name is most likely hard coded to be "helvetica" or "smallsmooth". You'll have to replace those fonts with yours for the input method to see the new characters.

All right, got it. Thanks for this.

I did some fiddlin' around and found out, so if anyone is interested:

It uses the lcfont for some reason, so you have to first remove the symlink to the smallest version of the lcfont, then link it to unifont, like this:

rm /home/QtPalmtop/lib/fonts/lcfont_100_50_t10.qpf
ln -s /home/QtPalmtop/lib/fonts/unifont_160_50_t10.qpf /home/QtPalmtop/lib/fonts/lcfont_100_50_t10.qpf

then reboot.

Later.

then reboot.
If you want the new font to be shown when the screen is rotated you must replace the rotated font also (at least in sharp rom). The commands are something like:

rm /home/QtPalmtop/lib/fonts/lcfont_100_50.qpf
ln -s /home/QtPalmtop/lib/fonts/unifont_160_50.qpf /home/QtPalmtop/lib/fonts/lcfont_100_50.qpf

that is without the "t10" at the end. (I don't have my Zaurus in front of me at the moment, but I'm pretty sure the commands are like that.)
