POLL: How stable is your Open Zaurus

The question came to me last night to see how many people actully have crashing problems with their open zaurus compared to sharp ROMs.. Please vote and tell us your experiences between the two. Please note that this poll includes any time you even need to "soft" boot your Zaurus.. (ie. put the button from Normal operation to replace battery)

Maybe you should specify the version of OZ your'e asking about. I use oz3.3.6pre1, and the only reason I reboot is is my SD card, which makes me trouble one a while.

I also use 3.3.6pre1 on my C750 (and my 5500). I don't have any troubles with either.

I use 3.3.6pre1 and it crashes every day. When I suspend and resume, the chance is pretty high, especially if there's a lot of time the Z is suspended...

Well I wanted to leave the question about the version open so we can understand how some might be more stable then others tobias has no worries with his 3.3.6pre1 but pyrates does...

Personally I use 3.2 because I want the most stable platform i can get.. the only time it hangs is when i insert my kingsmax 256 mb SD card and also with when I load Opie-player. Apart from that its beautiful!

SL-5500 running OZ 3.2
512MB Kingston CF
256MB Kingston SD
Pretec CompactLAN

Never seems to lock up under normal use. I've had problems in the past with a few 3rd party applications, but I've removed those. I do run these apps, along with the most of the Opie (v.93) apps:

Hancom (Presenter, Sheet & Word)
JustReader
Opera
Konsole
Konqueror
RoadMap
FBVNCserver
ZSafe

I'm afraid I'm among the multiple times a day clique
I think it's mostly to blame for using an unofficial(and well hidden) OZ 3.3.7rc1
It has far superior card handling, but OPIE commits suicide every other time I install something and I have to hard reset.

SL-5500 refurb
16MB Kodak MMC
Trendware/TrendNet TEW-222CF 802.11b

I am one of the people that OZ crashes several times a day, every time it goes to sleep that is, but I am also one of the first peopl to install OZ on a SL-6000 and I am using a build from OE that is not concidered stable...

This poll needs a once per hour button.

My Zaurus just went from once per hour to once per week by upgrading to the latest 2.4.18 OE builds and a 3.3.6pre1 OZ and a 1.1.3 Opie. There is one additional needed CF insert/eject patch needed.

This system now seems rock solid.

Well I used to be in the 'every 10 seconds' camp, but since installing 3.5.1 and keeping my appalling cf card (Maxell 64Mb) out unless I really need it, I rarely get full lockups.

SL-5500, OZ 3.5.1, Opie.
Kingston 512Mb SD card (256Mb FAT, 256Mb ext2)- works nicely
Maxell 64Mb CF Card (FAT)- absolute rubbish, keep it out if at all possible.

Unfortunately there are many programs which crash or do not run at all:
- HancomSheet appears to work, but it crashes if I try to open an existing file.
- Opie-recorder SIGSEVs if I press an arrow key, or tap buttons at the wrong time. I can't work out how to use it anyway.
- Many of the opie games cannot be found, I haven't got round to asking about this yet, but for some reason the files in bin are just links to busybox (actually I can't remeber off hand-it might be something else)- what on earth?!?!?!
There are many other issues with other programs, but those that work without crashing every 10 seconds work well (usually)(and without crashing).

Also, there are still some strange and annoying issues with usb-storage.

I've just reflashed to 3.5.2. Opie is the same, but there are probably many bugfixes.
Not impressed with GPE, which is very disappointing, I would love to run X apps.

Yeah, I've been using 3.5.1 for some time now, and haven't had a single crash. It's really great...

Cheers

3.5.1 seemed to die on suspend for me.  I would suspend it then it would never wake up.  3.5.2 has been rock stable so far though, and way faster than 3.2. I use wellenreiter, xmms, opie PIM stuff, konqueror.  Most apps are installed to a 256MB SD card (a sandisk) that I leave in almost 100% of the time.  Opie-ftp seems a bit flakey in this version (doesn't want to save settings right) but that's not a big problem. I like command line ftp better anyways. Also, xmms sometimes randomly fails to turn off power-management and lets the zaurus fall asleep while I'm listening to music.  If that happens simply exiting xmms and restarting it fixes the problem.  3.5.2 hasn't crashed yet and I've had it since it was on the oz ftp server. And I haven't been nice to it either.  I've been installing and removing all kinds of programs.  I haven't run into a glitch yet.
