opie-mediaplayer2 errors with:

no demux found for this media

The file is an mp3 file. How can this error be debugged? What is the cause?

Thanks,
Dan

Dumb questions of the day: does the MP3 file play fine on the desktop? Is the file size the same on the desktop as on the Z? Can you play other formats (e.g. ogg)?

Yes, mp3 plays fine in the desktop.

Yes the files are the same they are 'copies'.

I have no way to test an ogg. I have never seen one nor know where to get one. If they are available for test somewhere I will try one.

Thanks,
Dan

Can you play other mp3 files with opie-mediaplayer?

Which libs did you install?

the origenal feed was 3.3.6pre1 with Opie 1.0.3 There has been a partial upgrade to 1.1.3. There is most likely a lib incompatibility.

I have all the libs from the previous reply on another quewtion loaded. That said they may be from different feeds.

The package manager shows 2 feeds. One was origenally the 1.0.3 feed and one is the 1.1.3 updated to 1.1.4 feed (the feed was moved up level without a name change.). There does not appear to duplicates between the two feeds. One feed has a small yellow flag on some of the packages; I don't know what that means.

Should I pick one feed, say the 1.1.4 feed and 'replace' all the old packages with the newer ones??

If you want to try ogg you need to install the vorbis-tools package on your desktop (at least that's the name of the package under RedHat). Once you have that, go to any directory where you have .wav files and say

oggenc whatever.wav

You will end up with whatever.ogg encoded at a decent quality. Alternatively, you can use the grip CD ripper with vorbis-tools to convert audio CDs into oggs which is very smooth indeed, once you get a grip of grip's user interface (multiple levels of tabs, look under Config > Encode).

I go through periods with my Z - sometimes mp3s work and oggs don't, other times it's vice versa. Music playback is not exactly my priority, though, so I don't actually follow which tweaks cause those changes.

All,

I reflashed with the Hentges ROM and used Opie Pkg Man to install media player. So far it is much better. The only thing missing is media player can't seem to find .mp3 files.

Are there directions for media player? The searching and installing of mp3 files is not obvious.

Can you tell us the path to the files?

I'm not sure about the scanning behaviour of mediaplayer (except that it's very annoying because it takes forever!).

Hi Dan,
the thing with the different feeds looks like you are using the hentges rom 1.1.3:
http://www.hentges.net/misc/openzaurus/oz3...opie1.1.3.shtml
If you have this you have to reconfigure the package manager to the correct 1.1.3 feed:
http://www.hentges.net/misc/openzaurus/feeds/opie_1.1.3/
This is because the rom was using the opie testing feed and once the opie people changed testing and then 1.1.4 was testing.
It is not recommended to mix different opie versions.

Thank you.

The version I have had already been corrected for that. That brings up a question; there are two active feeds one for OZ and one for Opie.  Why are there 2 feeds? There appear to be duplicate packages between the two feeds; at least as they appear from package manager.

Dan,
i flashed that rom now too for tests. You are right, that there are both feeds.
I cant say why, but you can try to install the prefered versions. I am not sure about mixing feeds.
For testing it is a nice option to have all feeds, but for everyday zaurus I wouldnt mix, but this is just my 0.2 cents.
Have fun,

Sam,

Thanks. I had convinced myself that one was the OZ feed and one was the Opie feed. After looking at the feeds that is probably not enough of a distinction. The OZ feed has Opie 1.0.3 packages. The 1.1.3 feed seems to be Opie only.

If one is carefull to load Opie from 1.1.3 and OZ from 3.3.6pre1 then there should not be an issue. If one errors then there may be an issue.

That said, my Zaurus is the most stable and the most usefull that it has ever been!! I am really pleased with this combination.

I do have a question about the later OE-2.4.18-rmk7-pxa3-embedix-r5 kernel. Is this kernel based on the open-embedded tool set??

Hi Dan,
yes the kernels are based on the OE toolset. CoreDump and I decided once to use the actual OE pcmcia_cs that just works with OE kernels. So you need the kernel just if you want to update pcmcia_cs.
First you have to install a new kernel by putting  JUST the kernel (NO initrd.bin) on a cf card an flash as usual.
You can get the kernel from here:
http://www.hentges.net/misc/openzaurus/ker...xa3-embedix-r5/
or here:
http://www.openzaurus.org/official/experim...xa3-embedix-r5/

Then install pcmcia_cs.
The pcmcia_cs is here:
http://www.hentges.net/misc/openzaurus/fee...e_1.1.4/extras/
before pcmcia_cs you have to install update-rc.d with the --force-overwrite option.

Reboot.

You should just do this procedure, if cardmgr crashes sometimes. That was the reason we compiled the new kernels.
Cheers,
Sam

Sam,

Thanks, I flashed 2 Zaurus's yesterday with both a new zImage and a new initrd.bin on the CF card. They both worked just fine.

I have also added the 2 new modules. They seem to work very well. The only anomaly I see is sometimes on 'resume' the CF card will be ejected and not re-inserted.

The good news is I have not had a crash in over a week. That is up from 4 per hour on some apps!! This is a vast imporvement.

I just got my second Zaurus yesterday. One is for 'work' and one is for test. (the test Zaurus has a burnt out  light so the screen is very dark indoors. )

Welcome to the club. I have two Zauri too. One is for work, one for test.

So next interesting options could be to have a look at openembedded.org and sometimes look into irc #oe, #openzaurus, #opie.
We are hanging around in #hentges.net
If you like, feel free.
