Who has a 6000?
« Reply #45 on: November 10, 2004, 07:21:33 pm »
Hi! This is my first post here. I bought a 6000 from Amazon for $399 about two weeks ago. I had been considering getting a Tungsten C but my research indicated that many people experienced hardware and software problems with the C, so I held back. When the 6000 fell to a comparable price it was easy to choose it over the C.

Hi i got mine since three weeks from Amazon $399  .My first PDA!  Very happy with it, allthough i can't find much of freeware yet  .Specially i am   about the case that i can't take advantage of the video full capabilities, due to incompatible software from previous models. But overall quite happy with purchase!

Just got my Z6000W from Japan
It's charging now... Couldn't resist to turn it on though
Now I have to find a way to switch it to English.

Had mine a few weeks just loaded Opie on it to check it out. A very Sweet device for the Amazon $399 price especially. I wanted one since the first 5000's came out but the price just wasn't right.

I have one.  Paid $449 from Amazon.  Sold the "free" 128MB SD for $15.  Nice unit, but not completely happy about its Java support.  I just loaded IBM's new JVM & its better than the one that shipped with the 6000.  I'll keep it because it is pretty cool & has lots of potential.

[Update 31-Dec-04 - Called Amazon three weeks ago & they refunded me $70.  With the rebate my 6000L cost me $379.  I am very happy.]

New to the forum and new to the Zaurus, but not Linux.  Just received my 6000L from Amazon today and am really excited.  Have not had much of a chance to play with it yet, but I will.

I could not decide between the 6KL or a clamshell, so I found a C760 on Ebay and bought a new 6K, both actually arrived today, so I have a lot to do...

I had been looking for a paper-schdule replacement for several months.   I tried out a borrowed Palm and an iPaq, but they were just too crude and limited.  I read about the Zaurus 6000L somewhere, found this and a couple other sites and decided to add it to my Chirstmas list.  My girlfrient pickd it up off amazon about 3 weeks ago.  Love it's resolution, detail, flexibility, and even the standard apps.  (But planning on changing ROMs.)  I love and use GNU/Linux on my boxes, but am not a developer...I hope to contribute to this community in some other way, though.

My secondary purpose is to avoid wasting time, but not have to carry a laptop around.  With the little brother of this keyboard (now marketed as the PDA VIK?):

GrandTec Virtually Indestructible Keyboard

and the iriver USB cable found by hubcapboy (thanks!), I can get quite a bit of work done on the train, waiting around for late colleagues, etc.

Now i just need some cool wallpaper....

I have a question about packaging : What's in the box ?
Because I heard that in Japan , you don't have CD nor USB cable ?
And the Manual : Japanese or english ?

Thanks for your answers
Some of us (french users) are very interested in buying 6KL and we want a feed back

I'm french too

I bought my 6000L throught ebay, 378.91€, brand new. That's what I received in the box :
- a zaurus SL-6000L (obviously !)
- the cradle
- a male A <-> mini B usb cable
- CD
- manual in english
- 3 pair of earplug headphones
- plastic screen protector
- a "magnetic shield" (?) to put on the headphones cable
- the power supply
- maybe I forget something but that's all I remember for the moment

Outstanding screen  !! I played with it for some time then turned on my 5600 and Oh My God the diffrence really hurts !!

just got a 6000L from eBay, having been bitten by the jpettins scam at Amazon.

Yet to get the Amazon refund back..., but the 6000 does take the pain away - its so sweet. Though I am still in debating mode as to which is better the 6000L or the 750 clamshell ?

Would love to see a Cacko type ROM for the 6000 though.

If that "magnetic shield" is somewhat cylindrical and about an inch long, then I think it's supposed to go on the power cable (between the Z and the box).

Bought mine on eBay for about $420 new.  It's a bit large, e.g. almost 4x (nearly double the thickness, nearly double the length) the size of my Tungsten T3, so it's not something I'm going to just throw in my coat pocket.  But I'm really looking forward to getting things up and running, maybe try my hand at cross-compiling stuff from my Powerbook and/or maybe try to learn some Python.

Ain't new stuff fun!?!

I have an SL6000L.  I have owned an SL5500 and SL5600; of the three, this is my favorite (except for one dropped pixel).

It's too bad Sharp never marketed these correctly in the US.
