Num lock on Cacko 1.21b ROM
« on: August 25, 2004, 10:30:20 am »
I have noticed a couple of times typically following backup operations that a little N appears in the status line just above where C would appear if I had CAPS lock on.

I presume this is NUM Lock but I really haven't a clue of how I triggered it so my questions are...

i. Does it do ANYTHING at all on an SL-C860, can't seem to find anything that it shifts.
ii. Is there a way of turning it off short of rebooting ?

Anyone ??

Don't know about the SL-C860, but on my SL-5500, Fn-/? is the trigger (on/off) for Num lock.

Also, certain apps (such as addressbook) automatically turn Numlock on for specific fields, such as Zipcode.  You will get the Numlock indicator as long as your cursor remains in that field, but it will go away once you tab to another field.

Well it's not Fn+/ or Fn+?, bit dumfounded here... as I say it doesn't actually seem to do anything that I can see but it just irritates me that I can't turn it off without a reboot.

I get this, rarely, too.

The only way I can guarantee to get it to happen is to restart Qtopia (via the Settings->Shutdown applet). In fact, every restart of Qtopia will leave me with the little "N".

Like you, the only way I've found to get rid of it is a reboot.  I can't see that it's affected anything - none of the keys generate different characters - but it is irritating, isn't it?

Suggest you check to see if you have accidently selected a different keyboard, I get 'EN' at the end of the status line if I select the English keyboard, or perhaps you put an 'N' in the wrong place when you edited the keyboard layout

Actually no it's not that. Select CAPS lock and beside your EN will be a much smaller C representing the CAPS lock state.

I'm getting a small N underneath where the C for CAPS appears.. but only very very occasionally.
