openzaurus login? how do i start opie
« on: August 29, 2004, 06:00:55 pm »
have major problem.
was messing around with iwconfig and when i rebooted i get booting message and then openzaurus login. can do zaurus but don't know what password it needs - not accepting nothing or password. root  goes straight to command line but how do i get it to start opie like it used to?
no idea why it has suddenly stopped loading as useful and cant find solution on web, really stuck - nly thing i can think of if reflashing rom but its late and i'd rather not do that today.
any help would be appreciated

ok i found out the proble, did /etc/init.d/opie start and it won't start because grep wasn't found.

now i atleast know why and how this came about. i'm not a big linux user, pretty newbie-ish and i didn't know grep was vital and i've uninstalled it

solution would be to reinstall grep but how?
what package do i need and how can i install it from terminal since aqpkg won't run (as its graphical i assume) and i don't habe a grep package on my sdcard.

will i have to reflash or can i get grep onto my sd card and use ipkg (which i'm not sure how to use though)

It is probably a symlink to busybox, so you could do:
'ln -s /usr/bin/busybox /usr/bin/grep' or similar.

You don't say which device you have so I can't tell you which feed, but look under this directory and match your ROM and machine then go to the ipks/feed directory and do a search for grep. Install that package: http://www.openzaurus.org/official/

To use ipkg:

'ipkg install grep-busybox-blah-blah.ipk'

Assuming you could connect before (sftp?, ftp won't work as Opie's not running) then just connect with that and copy the ipk across.
