Japanese support on Cacko ROM
« on: August 30, 2004, 07:07:07 am »
Hi all,

I am looking for some files mentioned here:

http://externe.net/zaurus/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1430

They are: japanese-dict_1.0_arm.ipk and japanese-support_1.0_arm.ipk

These files put back the Japanese stuff from the original ROM.

I can't find them on the net. If anyone has a copy, I would appreciate if you could make them available.

Thank you very much.

My goal: full Japanese support, and also Cyrillic support (I want to use Cacko because it supports Cyrillic input).  I can't get Cyrillic input working on the original ROM. I have a SL-C860 purchased from Japan.

I have them. I tried them on an older Cacko ROM once, and it didn't work as in the Sharp ROM, so I'm not using Cacko (but perhaps you have more success). I could try to upload them here, but as they're 22 MB together, I wont do that now.

I have some web space, if you don't mind uploading. I will leave them up for other users. If OK, I can PM you with the details.

I am not sure what the rules of this forum are - whether you're allowed to upload such big files.

Thank you very much.

bobo12345: I don't mind the uploading, it was just that I didn't (and don't, at the moment) have time to find out how uploading works here etc. If you send me a message with your server info, I'll upload it there, probably even sometime this week :).

Cryssli:  You haven't mentioned any software yet (in this thread :)

>>How long will they be offered there? Will you make updates?

I will leave them up indefinitely.

As for updates, I am a linux newbie so I wouldn't know where to start.

If I get all the Japanese stuff working OK on Cacko ROM, I will document the procedure on my website for the next newbie.

As far as I know what's in those files comes directly from the Sharp ROM. So unless Sharp updates it, or makes the source available (and both seems unlikely), there isn't much to update (except perhaps some packaging issues).

Don't know if that was the problem, but like I said, I couldn't get the japanese support to work satisfactorily on Cacko, so I just use the Sharp ROM.

This probably means you don't have a Japanese font installed (I don't know the exact contents of the japanese-support ipk, so I don't know if there's one installed).  In any case you can install one such as unismall (search the downloads section or ZSI for it), make sure the app in question is set to use it, and you should be good to go.
