Permissions issue
« on: June 12, 2003, 02:27:32 pm »
I need a little help with this. I just got my Zaurus about a month ago and really like the functionality of it. I have recently upgraded to v3.10 Sharp ROM - so much better than the last!
Anyway, I am trying to install Rotation Plugin. However I need to install the rotation fonts in order to make this work. I figured out that they need to go to the opt/QTPalmtop/lib/fonts folder, however I get a permissions error when I try to copy the new fonts in (or even trying to deleted the old ones).
Where do I login in as administrator; or the equivalent function? I work on an AIX system everyday, so am at least somewhat familiar with UNIX, but I get lost in the various Linux flavors sometimes, when they are missing commands/features I am used to in AIX.
I\'d appreciate any help anyone could give with this.

If you are doing the copy via terminal, you can simply \"su\" to root, and it won\'t even ask for a password, unless you\'ve previously change the root password from the default nothing.

Many people don\'t like the added security of having multiple users (root & zaurus) on the Z, especially since it\'s clearly a single user device.  I believe people are working on modified roms to get around this.

Hope this helps!

forgot one more point... if you are coping via file manager, just click and hold the file manager launcher and a window will pop up which will allow you to check the \"run as root\" option.  You can then launch file manager to navigate and copy/paste/delete without permission problems.

another note - you have to check that \"run as root\" option each time before launching file manager, if you want the same privelages... basically it\'s not  permanent option.

I knew it was a simple answer, just couldn\'t think of it.
