intermittent anomaly ??

The Z is a 5500 running 3.3.6pre1 and Opie 1.1.3. The intermittent is the light. For over two weeks the light has not worked. Suddenly today it worked normally for several hours. However after a reboot it no longer worked.

What is the low level light driver?

What is the Zaurus interupt struture? Is there a chance this is a conflict??

Has anyone seen an intermittent light driver?? Could this be a h/w intermittent?

It's probably software!! I flashed 3.5.1 and a new kernel and wo-la; the light worked. I was running the Hentges ROM and zImage. Apparently there is an error or a mismatch.

What is the correct kernel set for the Hentges ROMs?? The best plan seems to be to start over with a known pair.

Hi Dan,
yes the OE Kernels help to solve some problems. The hentges rom 1.1.4 is distributed with OE Kernels. You could just take that. The OE Kernel dont works nice with the hentges rom 1.1.3, since you will need to update the pcmcia_cs module. This solves also cardmgr crash problem. The 1.1.4 comes with the new pcmcia_cs.
The rom is announced as german, since you have to klick on german flag to download. But this is no problem, just dont choose german as language, when the installer asks for language. Then remove the i18n package from rom.

Thanks, can I force install the update-rc and pcmcia packages and get the same results??

Now the SD card is really acting up. It is almost as though writes don't occur. I have had to reformat it 3 times. Each time is different so I thing it is s/w.

Hi Dan,
well you can do just kernel update:
1) Flash desired Kernel from the site mentiones above. Flashing Kernel is simply like flashing whole, the only difference is you have just to put JUST the zImage on CF (no initrd) and flash as usual.

2) take update-rc.d and pcmcia_cs from here:
http://teletubbie.hentges.net/temp/

3) install:
ipkg install --force-overwrite update-rc.d_0.4-r0_arm.ipk
(--force-overwrite is important)

4) install:
ipkg install pcmcia-cs_3.2.7-r3_arm.ipk

5) reboot

If I flash just the kernel are the Opie sym links and packages installed on SD lost? I am thinking about reflashing my 2nd Z.

My 1st Z, the one in this thread is having soft Opie problems. About one resume in three I have to re-suspend re-resume to get the touch screen to work. The kernel is running. If I ssh into the Z from a Linux box the kernel is up and running fine. If some of these soft errors are fixed in 1.1.4 that would be a good alternative.

No; that's part of the beauty of ipkg.

You can just run 'ipkg-link mount /mnt/card' and they will all be re-linked.

Hi Dan,
If you install whole image, then the ipkg thing lardman metioned above works. Just updating the Kernel should leave everything as it is, as I remeber while I tested.
The 1.1.4 has faster mmscd modul. Here you can see the changes, somehow t2 describes a little:

I installed 1.1.4. So far it runs great!

I have a question; the 1.1.3 feed still shows in the package window and the package timezones shows in both the 1.1.3 and the 1.1.4 feeds.

This seems like an error?

Why did the 1.1.3 feed survive the re-flash??

How can it successfully be removed without damaging the 1.1.4 feed?

It is a little Bug that 1.1.3 feed is there, as CoreDump told me. Just deactivate or remove that feed in the configuration Dan.

If I read your reply correctly I could install packages on an SD card from one Z and simply move the card to a second Z with a compatable kernel and OZ and simply:

ipkg-link mount /mnt/card

and the packages would be linked in. Is that true??

Right now my SD card has a single package, libopie1, installed on it from 1.1.3.  How can that package be removed from that card?? (it appears that libopie1 is also installed from 1.1.4) I am not sure how the duplicates actually work??
