I'm about half a step away from buying a c860, I just want to know if I can play go at my favorite server. It's java so I think it should work, but I was wondering if anyone could test it out before I put down the money. kgs.kiseido.com is the website address, just hit "play go now", and login with the guest button. Thanks a ton in advance

You can play go against your C860 itself. I whups my butt every time, but I'm not a great go player so YMMV.

Thanks, I guess i'll look around at some other pda's see if they can handel it, or maybe try and set it up with vnc....

wow... salespeople must love you.

Lets see, what allows the game to be played? javascript, java, flash, client/server?
one person with an unknown Os (ROM) says it didn't work just by clicking on a link...

There are other "versions" of go as well -- could these be good enough -- or do you have
to have your favorite one, etc?

ps: I just went there with Mozilla under Redhat 9 ... didn't work for me.  Guess Linux
is incapable.  Oh, looks like a java applet.  I forget, did the original sharp rom support
some old version of java for applets?

Heh, going to stores and playing with the demo stuff is half the fun of buying somthing.

I know that cgoban2, and the java webstart at kgs.kiseido.com works on linux, I've done that myself. I also know that cgoban1 has been ported to the zarus, most people seem to have just used it to play against gnugo, but I should be able to play on igs or nngs(two other go servers) at least which is pretty good. Kiseido Go Server, or kgs uses sun's java all the way, and you need the latest java to be able to run the webstart from that "Play go now" button. I really don't know too much about the zaures or the differences between the roms. If anyone with other roms wants to try I'd be very gratefull.

I may get one anyways though, but some of the other pdas are looking good with integrated wireless and almost half the price.... I do want linux though, and the clamshell switching to a regular pda is very cool.

First post, been lurking for some time.
I have an SL-C760 flashed with the 860 Sharp ROM.

I've been able to use Jago to connect and play on NNGS without any problems. Google Jago and you should find the site pretty quick.

It's Java based so start from the command line using

evm -jar jago.jar

Hope that helps. I've also used Jago and Gnugo to play against the Z, but it is very slow.

Finally, if you use Jago, you pretty much won't be able to use anything else while playing because it opens a window that is not selectable from the task bar.

Hi Sensei,

I tried Jago, and it does not work for me. I have a SL-C860. It is converted to english.

I have downloaded jago 4.0.

Whenever I try to start it with

evm -jar jago.jar

it starts.

In the terminal it tells me:

Display size = 640x480
could not open translation file /home/QtPalmtop/i18n/en/libsl.qmid
QLibrary open failed: /home/QtPalmtop/lib/libqsfepj.so, libkke.so.1: cannot load
shared object file: no such file or directory

Then the main window pops up. When I try to connect to gnugo (which runs fine from the command line), jago shows a window with a title "Play Go (GMP)". From there I say  "Play".
Then jago opens a window that tells me "negotiating with the program"
and then I get lots of error messages in the terminal from where I started jago.

The first lines are:

java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: rene.gui.IconBarPanel
  at jagoclient.board.ConnectedGoFrame.createIconBar()Lrene/gui/IconBar;(Unknown Source)

and then there are a lot more lines starting with "at"

What did I do wrong?

I built cgoban and gnugo for the c860 and optimized the display for 640x480.  You will need pdaxrom or X/qt however.  cgoban can connect to internet go servers.

I should add that GNUgo defaults to level 10, very slow.  Start with level 1 or 2 for Z.
