Haven't you heard:

http://gmail-is-too-creepy.com/

Maybe you can run Opera with '--with-evil' option to improve the results.

Seriously,

What is in the script on their site that causes the browsers to fail?

I take it you do not like GMail for what ever reason.  I looked at you site, and it does not bring out anything that I have not already hurd rumors on.  I wonder where all these rumors started, maybe M$, they sure don't like them.  Anyways.  Beleive what you want.  Some of us, really like the service.  Sure I wish their was an easier way to delete messages, but I also don't like the BIG adds at yahoo.  I also prefer to be bugged by adds of things that I care about, and not by every subject in the world.  What email service does not do some sort of scanning, Yahoo does, by the way I also use yahoo.  I think an honest question to ask, are these concerns real, or are people playing into fear.

Well back to the original Post, I quess no one knows if Firefox has an embeded version yet.  I know 1.0P came out not long ago.

The only embedded versions of firefox and minimo I've seen are for X11 based systems.  So, you would probably have success with pdaXrom (if it ran on 5x00) and firefox, but not on the Sharp based ROMs.  Unless you use xqt, but I've not seen that for the 5x00 devices.

As funny as I think the google-watch and gmail-is-too-creepy sites are, I think that there are some legitimate concerns.  You might want to look into Hushmail http://www.hushmail.com for a secure and free mail service.  Of course, maybe I'm being paid by Hushmail and/or Microsoft, and Google is the Internet's hero.  You can decide for yourself.

Problem is that gmail use some kind of activex on ie and dhtml with others dynamic stuff i forgot in mozilla / opera. That doesnt seem to be supported in the opera embedded version.

Good bet is to wait for a new opera version, or get minimo ported to qt ! .

Its like trying to use gmail on a mas os 9, its impossible, old version of IE, Netscape doesnt work and you cant put new firefox, safari etc on it.

Thats would be nice from google to allow an alternative to they really kick ass interface thought.

I am interested in knowing how well gmail run in minimo or firefox too !
(read that it took like 7seconds to open the cnn page with firefox on a Zaurus  )

BTW has someone tried with opera 7.55 ?

In the meantime you might want to access your gmail through the gmail-lite php scripts installed on a server. Some info here : http://discussion.treocentral.com/tcforum/...ead.php?t=67148

PS :
. read that gmail is working with opera 7.60 which is in preview 4 for linux ( http://my.opera.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?forumid=3 ) but apparently not on arm yet
. if someone wants a gmail invitation to try gmail from a Zaurus with opera 7.55, firefox or minimo then I can provide one, just ask in this thread !

I stumled on this thread looking for something else entirely. However, I was able to connect to gmail quite nicely on my 6000 using firefox 0.9gtk (as described on the "I'm flabbergasted" thread in the xqt section of development)

It can be done in sharp or (most probably) oz opie.

as to the gmail paranoia.... maybe true, but
A). does anyone put any thing sensitive or extraoridinarily private in free email accounts?
B ). does anyone have only a gmail account?
and
C). If you run linux and are concerned about mail security get a dyndns address and make a mail server....

if A and B apply and you can't do C then maybe it is more of an evolution/natural selection thing.....

gmail is nice, well set up, handy... and frankly I just don't think I am important enough for my web mail to merit much governmental scrutiny, .... on the contrary, I encourage use of gmail  because I think the archives it will produce will (if periodically preserved) be a great record of our times.

You don't even need a browser to read gmail. You can use Sharp email client with stunnel to read gmail via SSL. I do that myself.

BTW, Cacko ROM 1.22 already has stunnel built in and sample configuration files. Read Cacko ROM FAQ about how to setup your email client with gmail

That is very cool indeed about stunnel, I am definitely going to upgrade to the new cacko. I have been putting it off - cuz my little ol Z is actually working beautifully with all my stuff - but I can't help going cutting edge. Isn't that we all have Z's and not some micro*oft , palm pda?

Gmail does not support opera.  Use the pop3 option that gmail has to allow you to use the sharp client.
SL-6000L Sharp ROM 1.12 - 1G SD (RiDATA) - 2G Microdrive (Hitachi)
TRENDnet TE-CF100 10/100 (no drivers needed) AmbiCom CF56M-EZ modem (no drivers needed)
