OpenZaurus 3.5.1, 5600, USB, WinXP
« on: September 20, 2004, 06:53:30 pm »
Hi All,

I'm new to OpenZaurus and Opie, previously been using Sharp 1.32 rom with overclocked Kernel on my 5600.  I installed OpenZaurus 3.5.1 today which runs very smoothly and looks great.

However, after installing OpenZaurus, I can't seem to hit it anymore over USB.  Previously I was using Zaurus Manager to set to USB-TCP/IP setting so I could use FileZilla to transfer files, as well as use ssh from cygwin console.  Now I can not even ping it.

I've tried changing the settings in Networking for usbd0 to use a fixed IP address of 192.168.129.201, subnet mask of 255.255.255.0, and gateway of 192.168.129.200.  This doesn't seem to do anything.

Also, I tried using Qtopia Desktop 1.7 to sync with Zaurus but without luck.  QTDesktop doesn't seem to find the Zaurus.

I'm really looking forward to getting things going with OpenZaurus; any help with these would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks,
Steven

Hi r0bin,

I don't think it's the same issue as I'm not  getting any yellow popups.  Thanks for reply though, I'm going to give this another go tomorrow.

Okay, it seems that the IP from the Zaurus Manager program is used.  If I manually put in an IP on the Network Connections in XP (Local Connection 3 for me), I can ping the Zaurus.  However, that's about all I can do.  I can't ftp, ssh, telnet, or anything.  I tried these settings:

Ethernet adapter Local Area Connection 3:

        Connection-specific DNS Suffix  . :
        IP Address. . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.129.201
        Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.255.0
        Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.129.200

for both the network connection on WinXP as well as on the usbd0 setting on the Zaurus itself.

If I ssh, I get:

ssh: connect to host 192.168.129.201 port 22: Connection refused

Dropbear seems to be running on my zaurus, and I have no firewalls enabled on my XP machine.

I feel like I'm getting really close and I'm excited but frustrated at the same time.  If anyone can help out it'd be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
steven

Connection-specific DNS Suffix . :
IP Address. . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.129.201

and

ssh: connect to host 192.168.129.201 port 22: Connection refused

IP addresses must be different. Try 192.168.129.200 for the XP end of the connection; then use the ssh command as you used above.

Hi Lardman,

That absolutely did the trick!  I'm now able to ssh and sftp into my Zaurus, which was what I did a lot of when I had the Sharp ROM on it.  Thanks very much to you for your help!

...correction, I can ssh but no sftp.  sftp doesn't seem to be installed.
