Todo List field discrepancy
« on: September 21, 2004, 02:45:53 am »
Hi all,

I was able to sync up my 5600 with OZ 3.5.1 at home today on Linux with Qtopia Desktop 1.7 using wireless.  I was very excited to do so, but it seems there is a discrepancy between the Opie todo list and the Qtopia one.

On Opie, there is a "summary" field and "description" field.  On Qtopia Desktop, there is a "Description" field that is analogous to the "summary" field in Opie, and there is a "Notes" field, analagous to the "description" field in Opie.

Is there something I'm missing here and I should be using a different Qtopia desktop or something?

Thanks,
steven

Update: I noticed on the Opie website that the screen shots for the TODO application use "Description".  The opie todo list I have on OZ 3.5.1 uses Summary.

Can someone please explain why this has change?  It makes using QTopia Desktop on Linux absolutely useless as the fields don't match up.

Thanks,
steven

The screenshots on the opie website are old. What used to be one field in qtopia and old versions of Opie are now two different fields.

Hi treke,

Thanks for the info.  It doesn't really make any sense to me why this was changed though; is there a version of Qtopia Desktop that uses the summary field?  Or is there something else I can sync up with Windows and Linux that will use the summary field?  I'm trying to figure out how to migrate myself from using the Sharp ROM to OZ as best as I can, and I haven't come across the information yet with regards to this.

Thanks,
steven

It was changed to introduce new functionality that the developers wanted. Qtopia Desktop doesn't support it, and since it's a closed source application the Opie developers can't update it. At the moment there is no good way of syncing opie with windows.

Hi treke,

That's very disappointing to hear, as I used to do all my syncs up with Qtopia Desktop.  I'm not seeing much alternative software out there for syncing up with, so in the end, it doesn't make sense to me to break this kind of functionality as opposed to reusing the fields and making compatible changes.  Anyways, disappointed to know that now that I can actually sync to Qtopia Desktop on Linux and Windows, it doesn't do me any good.  (one of the reasons I wanted to give openzaurus a try in the first place).

Thanks,
steven
