Which CF modem?
« on: December 17, 2003, 12:55:18 am »
The list at the sharp website seems to say that most CF modems will not work with the Zaurus. I\'m looking for a simple (landline) CF modem for my C750. Can anyone recommend a model that is easily available?

Targus CF modem. It has worked on my 5500 in all the Sharp and OZ roms, and works in my c760 as well.

I have been using a Socket Communication landline CF modem on my 5000D.
Works smoothly and no hitches at all.

Which model# are you guys using? I bought a Targus PA560 and when I stick it in my C750 nothing happens.  People say that the Targus PA560U will work, but I couldn\'t find it and I decided to take a chance.

Guest, which ambicom mobem? I have CF56M-EZ and I cannot get it
to respond to minicom (what serial port should I be talking to? Tried ttyS1, ttyS2)
and the \'on\' light does not come on.

I have been trying to dial in to it and have getty give me a login propmt, but
now I am starting to wonder if my problem is perhaps with the card.
edit
I did not try ttyS3- now that I have, it works on my SL5500.

I use the Ambicom CF56M-EZ and it works fine with my C860. I connect via the Network applet (created a new PPP Dial up config, left the init string at the default).

I picked up a Hawking Technology 56K modem on a clearance counter at Microcenter and it worked perfectly right out of the box.

Found a CF modem at Radio Shack on clearance for $19.99, worked out of the box on my SL-5500.

Card says: 56K Compact Flash Modem Radio Shack 25-928. On the back says MODEL: FB CFVFM-5614RD and below that \"Pretec\"

My TrendNet TFM-CF56 works just fine (after editing the config file) on my SL-5500.  Most CF modems are based on the same chip set, so they should nearly all work with the Z, as long as they are not \"WinModems\".

I did not try ttyS3- now that I have, it works on my SL5500.

I have that same modem and I can\'t get it to work with my 5600.
Although I think I tried to use ttyS3. I can\'t get minicom to work with it either (this is the first time i\'ve ever played with minicom)

What steps did you take to get it to work?

The targus modem appears to be a rebadging of this Billionton (Taiwan) modem:

Billionton also make an ethernet CF card that is reported to work well with the Zaurus.
