Artists Wanted
« on: October 02, 2004, 10:16:16 am »
Hey Guys

For those that aren't aware, I'm creating a brand new Zaurus Software Index for the community.  If you haven't already, the link to the board where it's been talked and discussed is here: https://www.oesf.org/forums/inde...p?showforum=114

Anyways, the reason I am posting is that I am requesting you graphic designers and artists out there to come up with a layout

Here is the current one I'm using: http://www.dangerz.net/dz/zsi2/

It's one that I just put together quick and it works for now.  Anyways, I know there are some talended people out there, so I'm requesting that some of you try and come up with some concept layouts for the ZSI2.

Here are the requirements:

- Must be able to fit in 640x480 for those of us using clamshell and also be able to stretch as far out as needed.
- Must come up with a variant that is made for 320x240/240x320, for the non-clamshell Zaurus owners.  Try to keep it the same style/colors.
- Must have enough space for a banner on the top so org has the option to try and recoup some costs from this.  I believe the min size is 468x60, but I'm not positive.
- In the layout that I created, if you look at 'my.jpg' you will see little 'Z2' icons on the side of 'Personal Information' and 'My Projects'.  I need you to create a button like that will a rollover state.

You will get full credit for the layout design, but by submitting a layout, you must agree to let us fully use and modify your layout to how we need.

You dont have to create any of the HTML or anything.  Just fire up Photoshop or whatever you guys use and create me a neat looking site.  I'll take care of turning it into a webpage.

I'd like to have the page up and ready for testing within the next 2 weeks, so the more you submit the better.  When it comes close to going live for beta, I will hold a vote to see which layout the community likes most.  As well, you have full permission to use the layout in any kind of portfolio that you may have of graphic work.

Any questions, feel free to message me on here or just ask in this post.

Thanks Guys  ~

Roy

So, I figured I'd start this off with some layouts I've thrown together of my own:

http://www.dangerz.net/dz/zsi2/contest/layout3.jpg

I'm going to try and make as many as possible, but obviously I can't win this contest so you guys gotta outdo me

I like that as well.  Keep going with it.  Maybe try some color variations so we have different styles.

A *very* simple design I created... (Hey, I'm better at coding and compiling than art...)

630 across the larger one (so it's sure to fit on the C-series screens with ease), and 230 across the small one (again, to fit on the 5500/5600 with ease).

I definitely do not expect to win. But hey, might as well give it a go, huh? Might add another one or two sometime later.

Can be found here: http://zaurus.duelmonsters.ca/zsi2-contest/
Sorry. I just don't have the time...

Very nice, however, on the final version I would suggest that you chop up the image.
The middle part of the image is essentially the same thing so could be chopped up a small tile which could be repeated on the page, this may bring the image size down from the current ~50K to probably around 10K (or even smaller). Much faster loading for the guys browsing on GPRS.

HTML would then have multiple references to the single tile image to construct the wide banner.

Does this make sense ?
