E-book reader for Sharp ROM

I\'m looking for a free e-book reader for the Sharp ROM that can read mobipocket e-books.

opie-reader can read unencrypted mobipocket books and will work on the Sharp ROM. I\'m pretty sure that JustReader will too.

Unencrypted mobipocket files are just HTML embedded in DOC files so in each case you will need to enable the html filter if it doesn\'t self enable (it does in the next release of opie-reader but you have to do it by hand in the current - let me know if you want a re-release version). The free Baen books are unencrypted MobiPocket.

For encrypted mobipocket files you need, believe it or not, mobipocket. DRM 8^(. I believe someone cracked the scheme but within an hour of me finding the post all records of it had been expunged - even google had removed it.

This disappeared before I could archive it. I found the post and then by the time I went to the website it had been taken down for \"violations of policy\" and then when I went back to the post that had been removed. I wonder if anyone here has archived it?...Scott?

Oh, and I\'ve just ftp\'ed a version of OpieReader which does MobiPocket pictures as well as text to my website. Its version 0.7d. I\'m not sure if I\'ll get to update the links before Monday but if you find a link to an old version just make the obvious version number substitution to get 0.7d.
If you do use 0.7d, you need to do all the key mapping before you can use it. The key mapping is a lot more flexible to the point where is was pointless providing defaults...especially as the defaults for one machine could be disastrous on another. Just get up the Settings/Configuration dialog and then got to the Buttons tab. It should be fairly obvious what to do ftom there.

TimW, I love tw/Opiereader, but I use Justreader instead because it allows me to change font/screen colors (I dont read black on white as it hurts my eyes) - would it possible to add this feature? I like Opiereader much more mainly because of its stability compared to Justreader (which crashes both when you try to autoscroll using the Helvetica font, and sometimes somewhat randomnly). The last time I checked also, you could only change font size, has this been changed to allow font changes too?

Just a thought, has anyone tried to look throught the internet archive? (archive.org, I believe?) There is a VERY SMALL chance that it copied the site before it was shut down. That could at least get you a filename to search for.

You have always been able to change the font in opie-reader. There is a combobox on the Layout(2) tab of the settings dialog which allows you to do this.

I can add a facility to change the default colours easily enough but if the document overrides the default colours (which it can in html, mobipocket and plucker) then should I let it do so, or just ignore it? Or is this unlikely to be an issue with the documents you read?

yzord, I\'ve done a bit of research and there seem to be a few options we could use to change text colours. I don\'t have any problems with black on white text (which is why I have never added this option) so I\'m not sure that I can judge which is best so, if you are willing to try it out, could you e-mail me (timwentford at hotmail dot com).

Yup, it\'s all true, but we will be finding out soon if the Z can hold up, my 860 is in the mail as we speak.

Tim, thanks for replying/addressing this feature request so quickly! It\'s wonderful to see a developer so dedicated to their product, let alone you dont get paid anything for it!  I\'ve just sent you a private message with my email addy (I read your private message before checking the forum), so I\'m more than willing to test out whatever modifications you\'ve made.

Anyway, I must have been mistaken about the font change thing... I seem to remember at one point that you wouldnt specifically change the font by name, and that it was specified as styles or sizes or something. Oh well, whatever it was, I\'m glad it\'s there.

As for colour override, I think approaching it the way browsers do would be the easiest way (have a checkbox somewhere that essentially asks \"Allow document to override custom colour\" or something like that). Personally, I dont use mobipocket or plucker (all my ebooks are in html or txt, and I just go online when I want to with a wifi cf), so this will not affect me much, but I can see where people might be in a situation where this may make a difference.

Hi... I tend to only grab feeds, although I want to go down killefiz and grab both .ipk *and* source to everything... that could take a while unless I write a little perl program to do it.

Anyway, I copied all the files that I could find at TimW\'s site (all downloaded except for the landscape version).

I\'m re-organizing my dirs to try to make them a little more sane... but the file will be on the site, if not at the same location.

Also, I highly recommend trying to find the author\'s primary / preferred location for distribution, etc.  My archives are mostly just in case something somewhere goes bewm (again).
