Serial cable for SL-6000L
« on: October 12, 2004, 05:07:02 pm »
Anyone knows if the serial cable sold for the Zaurus 5000 and 5500 fits the SL-6000L?

The cable is identified as: Sharp CE-170TS Serial cable.

I have the cable and it fits upside-down to the orientation on the SL-5500.

Caveat Emptor:  I haven't actually needed to use the cable on the SL-6000 yet.

Is it a straight-though cable or null modem cable? I was not able to find any indication on this.

Is it possible to plug it with the keyboard open?

It is designed to plug into a PC with 9-pin female connector so I guess it is already null modem.  If you want to connect it to a peripheral you'll need a null modem and (probably) a gender changer.

There is some useful info at

http://www.serialio.com/products/adaptors/ZThinCable.htm
http://www.serialio.com/products/adaptors/...CableGender.htm

(I don't have any financial relationship with SerialIO.  I've purchased some USB cables in the past.)

Yes but you won't be able to open and close the keyboard while the plug remains connected.

I purchased the ZThin cable from serialio.com for my SL5500, which it worked quite well on it's a great alternative to the bulky Sharp offering.

It will also work with the SL-6000L BUT you have to cut off the little "ears" either side of the actual connector in order to fit it to the 6K. Apparently they thought we would be swinging our Zaurii around our heads like a bolo as I can see no other reason for the connector overkill.

The cable still works just great on the 5500 too. It works on either device with the keyboard either extended or closed.

Hope this helps,
