SL 6000 Support
« on: October 16, 2004, 04:15:31 am »
Simple question. I noticed on the OpenZaurus.org webpage that SL 6000 support is going to be availble with the next release of OZ (3.5.2 I believe?) In what kind of time frame can I (we) expect this release - and what kind of support will it have for the VGA display, WiFi, etc.

Thanks!

I'm almost certain this information is SOMEWHERE on the forum, but several searches have proven fruitless.

EDIT: To be more specific - I would like to know about OPIE support.

Have a look through the mailing list archives, see if there's anything there: openzaurus-users, openzaurus-devel

Also take a look at the thread in the 6000 part of the forum about running OZ - these are the people who are doing the development work on the 6000 so they should know.

I have got wlan-ng so that we can uses the builtin wifi on the 6000 but currently this is only availble when ran from the command prompt...The OPIE image is closer to being ready then teh GPE but both can ran on the 6000...

I have been using an opie image on my 6000 for the last week...Still has a few issues that need to be worked out, like gettign wlan-ng so that it can be used through a gui instead of my shell scripts and get brightness control to work...

If you are interested I have my rons at http://www.thegrantclan.org/download/zaurus/roms/tosa/

FYI, I fixed up the OZ wlan-ng handling a bit.  You can now configure it via /etc/network/interfaces, similar to the way one configures the usual wireless-tools interfaces.  Naturally the gui doesn't handle that yet.  I'll write up a page on the wiki describing how this configuration works.

I also adapted the interfaces entry to automatically do the necessary bits (load module, enable the hardware) on up, and the reverse on down.  So, you can now use the GUI network application to bring the interface (wlan0) up and down, and it will properly do so.
