Buffalo WiFi Card Problem in C860
« on: December 22, 2003, 08:23:53 am »
I\'ve purchased Buffalo Wifi Card (WLI-CF-S11G) since I\'d sucessfully installed tkcROM in my C860.  And it fails to recognize it and the configuration wizard displays dummy characters that I couldn\'t understand.

Would anyone suggest how to resolve this problem?

p.s. I tried to install the Cacko ROM v1.18 but didn\'t success.  Would anyone suggest how to install this ROM in C860 please.

Buffalo WiFi Card Problem in C860

I had a similar problem initially with the Buffalo card when I bought it for my 5500 (like yours, running tkcROM). This post at the DevNet tells how I resolved it, with the help of the other forum members there.

However, the problem in my case was that my card is a WLI-CF-S11 (no G), and I had to edit the Buffalo entry in /etc/pcmcia/wlan-ng.conf, as there was only an entry for the WLI-CF-S11G. All I can suggest at this point, with the card inserted, is entering

Code: [Select]
cardctl ident

at the terminal, and noting the two hex numbers given after \"manfid\", in the entry for the card (hoping there is one). Then, find the Buffalo WLI-CF-S11G entry in /etc/pcmcia/wlan-ng.conf, and edit it to include

Code: [Select]
manfid 0x026f, 0x030b

(or whatever the two manfid numbers are for your card). Beyond that, I\'m not sure what else might help, as I\'ve never even seen a C-series Zaurus before, let alone used one

Hope this is of some help, and apologies if you\'ve already thought of all this...

the WLI-CF -S11G works \"out of the box\" on a c750 with proto\'s rom (tkc).

When you say it isn\'t recognised, does it appear in the square tab at the bottom right of the status bar?

what does \"cardctl ident\"  say?

The configuration wizard is messed up on the tkcrom, but you don\'t need it. just choose to add a new network instead of clicking the wizard.  You can then add the network details by going through the tabs.

I borrowed a c750 over the weekend and had wireless syncing set up in minutes.

The c860 should be identical to the c750.
