Can't install anything on OZ 3.5.1
« on: October 20, 2004, 03:59:22 am »
I've got a 5000D and I've flashed the ROM with the 24/8 version of OpenZaurus 3.5.1. I got the Zaurus because I want to edit images and OpenOffice-type documents. I can't get any software at all to install. I put the .ipk files on the SD card, I run ipkg from the shell, it looks like it's doing stuff, but then it always gives some error or another-- either it can't satisfy a dependency for a package (even though package manager says it's already installled) or something else. Of course I always get the application icon in the launcher, and of course it doesn't work.

I want to be able to install and use:

1. Hancom Office programs
2. an image editor (Hancom paint, or qpaint, or visualq)
3. browser, ftp, gaim, wireless drivers for my CF WiFi card

...and that's really it. If I can install those things, I'll be happy. If I can't, then I'm not sure what the Zaurus will be useful for.

Anybody know what I should be trying?

I'm not sure, but I think Hancom Office is not supported in OZ 3.5.1.

If you're interested in Java then look here:

1. Hancom Office programs

Hancom apps work (at least Sheet does - it starts up, I've not actually had to use it for a long time; I don't use the others, but I imagine they are also fine).

This info is on the forum, but as I just searched and couldn't find it myself, I'll re-iterate.

You need to use the older Hancom apps, the ones which cam with the 5500 Sharp ROMs 2.xx. These may be available in the ZUG downloads, or in a packages zip file for an older cacko ROM, or use romburst to grab them from an initrd.bin.

Use the compat libs with them. They can take a while to start up.

2. an image editor (Hancom paint, or qpaint, or visualq)

Does it have to be one of these? I imagine they will all work with the compat libs (not sure about Hancom Paint - if it's an older version, like the Hancom apps aboce then it should be fine. You'll have to package it yourself though.

3. browser, ftp, gaim, wireless drivers for my CF WiFi card

Opera (with compat libs), konq (in feed), ftp (in feed), gaim (with compat libs), wireless drivers (built in to kernel for pretty much everything afaik).

So to sum up, you should be able to get everything working.

Regards,

Simon
