Character codes on ROM 1.4JP? Unicode?
« on: October 22, 2004, 06:45:51 am »
While fixing bugs for the dtm2xml tool and ZMacSync I noticed that several "Umlauts" like äöü are not properly displayed on a C860 with ROM 1.4JP. They are shown in the Address book as a square box. Reading back through dtm2xml to the Mac displays them properly.

But syncing japanese Kana (hiragana, katakana) did work and show properly on Zaurus and Mac.

So, I have two hypotheses:

a) Zaurus has no font in the Japanese ROM for äöü - but the english ROM does
Zaurus does not use UFT8 in the DTM database

Any hints are really appreciated.

Both the lcfont and the helevetica fonts on the standard Sharp roms for the Cxx0 lack alot of the non-Ascii characters to make room for all the Kanji, hiragana and katakana.

The helevetica font should at least have the characters used by French and German from memory, but is definetely missing a lot of European langauges characters.
