Macromedia Flash players

Anyone tried porting either of these Flash players to the Z?

Swfdec is a library for rendering Flash animations and games:

F4L is a Flash editor for Linux written in QT:

Haven't dove in myself yet, but I was wondering if anyone else had?

Yes, it was Lardman I believe and it works for version 3 files and older but I'm sure work can befor new depends. Oh by the way look up Qtflashplayer orQflashplayer.

I'm aware of qflashplayer.  It only works with Flash 3 animations, which are basically non-existant.  Swfdec looks like it supports Flash 5, which would be nice.  Another idea I had was doing something like WINE for the PocketPC version of the Flash 6 plug-in.  It would probably be more effective to just work on Swfdec to get it working with Flash 6/7 though.

Iirc, qflashplayer was just a frontend to the swfplayer lib (which is what I compiled a long time ago, before someone created the qflashplayer frontend).

It looks like the first link might be an update of this original library and binary, and therefore you might be able to get qflashplayer to work with it (with some work of course).

This is all guess-work though.

So far as I can tell Swfdec has nothing to do with qflashplayer or the above flash plugin.  It looks like no one has evaluated swfdec for use on the Zaurus yet, which is hopeful.

Dredging up an old topic...

Apparently swfdec can now play youtube and other video sites' content.  Has anyone made an attempt to compile for Z?

I'll have to check if I still have my compile env. still available.

I get the impression that you either have to play the videos through Firefox (via the Mozilla plugin) or download the videos and then play them (no good, mplayer will do the same thing).

If that's not the case, I'll give it a go. I just don't see a point otherwise.

I was reading a discussion about the original Xbox's quite excellent Media Center and the intention to try and make it work properly as a BBC iPplayer client. This is good because it means that the FLV format and some of the protocols were going to be reverse engineered or possible published by the BBC, which means that there's a possibility it will trickle down through generic linux to embedded versions.

Soi swfdec does not act as a plugin to browsers in general? or can't be selected as a handler?

Maybe not, but how about Opera?  I know the desktop Opera is different than our Z Opera, but is there a chance that it'll work?

I found an interesting article regarding Gnash:

If you scroll down to the "Browser Plugin" section, you'll see that a plugin is available for Opera.  It didn't work, but it showed something!  That's enough to pique my interest.  I'm going to try to compile Gnash and see if Opera will at least attempt to pick it up as a plugin or helper app.

Why not epiphany then? FF-obbviously-and I had always thought that a browser with media plugins was a "heavy" regardless...
