Viewing Japanese text on NetFront
« on: December 24, 2003, 02:20:26 am »
Hi,

I have recently become proud owner of a Sharp SL-C860, purchased in Japan - I live in Japan (lucky me !!) . I have converted most of the s/w to English, thanks to the tons of information available on the Web. I have just 1 problem I am not able to solve so far. The device has NetFront browser installed. When I open a Japanese page in the browser (e.g., www.zaurusworld.co.jp, the default homepage), I get square boxes instead of Japanese characters.

Would really appreciate any help on this.

Cheers
David

Do you still have the original LCFont and helevetica fonts or did you change the helevetica fonts to the US/European version? If you changed them then you are probably out of luck cause the other version doesn\'t support kanji/hiragana/katakana.

If you have the original fonts still try changing the encoding to Japanese Autodetect - tools -] view -] encoding - or one of the other Japanese options (probably shift-jis is its the web).

If that doesn\'t work then you probably changed locale.conf from \"ja\" to \"en\", if so I don\'t think you will get kanji - but it sounds like it\'s most probably a font issue.
