Opera 7.55 problem|on C860
« on: November 04, 2004, 10:42:55 am »
Hi, I wonder if Opera 7.55 users have this problem:

When I am in some pages such as Yahoo! Mail, right after checking new messages in the Inbox, the browser just quits automatically.  I did't have this problem before with NetFront or Opera 7.30.  What do you think the problem is and how to overcome that?  I have reinstalled 7.55 but the problem remains.  Thank you for your help!

You might consider to start Opera from a command prompt and check possible error messages.

Thank you.

But I couldn't start Opera from the terminal and I got the following message:

Qt/Embedded data directory is not owned by user 0
Aborted

So what should I do?  Thank you!

You can change the ownership of a folder/directory with commands like:

su root
chown -R zaurus.qpe /home/zaurus/.opera
exit

You might also have to change some references to "root" to "zaurus" in the configuration files within the /home/zaurus/.opera folder.

Opera is generally crash-happy. I've used it quite a bit on PC and x86 linux, and it's just unstable.
Where can you get the updated version, btw? (I only have 7,30)

It comes in IBM's WebSphere package.

(If you just want Opera you'll have to dig around the ipk and find it)
