TRENDnet WiFi CF not working
« on: November 09, 2004, 08:52:31 pm »
Hello everyone:

I have a new SL-5600 (pxa255) with the latest sharp ROM. I just bought a TRENDware TEW-222CF becasue It looked like others in the ZUG reported that it works. However, for me that is not the case.

When I plug in the card, I get the CF icon. In the console, I can see with 'lsmod' that the prism2_cs and p80211 modules have loaded. I then do a 'dmesg' which shows that the modules have loaded, but that initialization as failed maybe because of a Vcc mismatch. It also reports the card as a '5.5V card! but 3.3V'. 'ifconfig' also does not log any interfaces except 'lo'.

Can anyone please clue me in on what is going wrong? Why does the TEW-222CF card work for others, but not for me? Do the other Zauruses 5500/5000 support 5V CF cards? Did TRENDware change the TEW-222CF to a 5V card? The wireless card says nothing about required voltage, how would one know what voltage a card it before they buy?

Any information would be appreciated!

Thank you in advance.

This .ipk fixes things for sharp rom. Card is both 3.3 & 5 V. Do a search to see how to get it working on OZ

Wow!  That worked wonderfully.

I am not sure  why it is working however.  I looked over the ipk file to see what was in it.  Basically all it did was save my original /etc/pcmcia/wlan-ng.config and make a new wlan-ng.config based off the original with some commented out bind entries.  What confuses me is that no modules are loaded, but the card is recognized and is set to eth0.  I guess I should leave well enough alone for now.  I guess the support is built into the kernel which is why I don't see a module?

I am very thankful to you for telling my about that ipk.  I doubt I would have found that on my own.  I would buy you a beer if we were ever out at the same bar.

Thanks much.
