No Sound OZ 3.5.1 SL5600
« on: November 10, 2004, 05:04:39 pm »
Has anyone gotten sound out of this configuration. I couldn’t get the screen clicks or alarms to work. I didn’t try XMMS or mplayer. I went back to the Sharp ROM, because of this. I really liked OZ, but I use it for listening to MP3’s and need the sound. Plus it is nice to be alerted so you don’t miss appointments. What are the modules I should look for? I also tried:

cat sound.wav > /dev/dsp

and still nothing. Any suggestions? TIA

Sorry, but I can't help you on that. Since no 5600 developers joined the OE initiative, we had to compile the 5600 images blindly -- without a means to test them. When you have found the culprit, please send us a patch to openzaurus-devel@lists.sf.net

Thanks.

I installed the XMMS-embedded package on 5600 and it seems to work okay. I've only played MP3s but they sound fine. OTOH, screen-tap or keyboard clicks are muted to nothing. Curious, really.

I've gotten no sounds at all on my 5500 under GPE.  I had assumed that was another of those reasons why it wasn't ready for general usage yet, but you're saying it should be working?

Yasen and bzack

That proves your sound is ok but you need the opie-sounds_1.1.6+xxxx.ipk which is not in the oz3.5.1 feed. You can however force install one from the opie unstable or testing feeds (gcc3) to make your key and touch clicks work.

Maybe the good folks over at OZ/OE could include this ipk in there next version feed?

Just a follow up for anyone with a 5600 that wants to install OZ with Opie gui...

The XMMS-embedded player (that Windrose used in this thread) plays both mp3s and oggs just fine for me.

The 3 missing .wav files for keysound, touchsound and alarm can be taken from any opie-sounds ipk and placed in
/opt/QtPalmtop/sounds

Sorry it took me this long to test this
