Screen flickering..
« on: November 15, 2004, 09:41:41 am »
Could all the user who are complaing about screen flickering in pdaXrom please try this:

https://www.oesf.org/forums/inde...wtopic=8487&hl=

A bit down in the post..

Be carefull and we don't take any responsibility for broken hardware - allthough it should brake anything..

Edit: Please try different settings until you get the desired result - i had to do 3-4 trys - but now my screen is rock solid and ultra sharp..

Could people please post their values for COM and LCD.

A good way to test for ok results is to rotate screen to "pda mode" and then run dillo and resize to full window. The windows top title should not flicker, have shadows etc.

Quick guide for entering and changing it:
1. Leave gui, bring menu up and exit.
2. Enter reboot at commandline and keep d and m pressed
3. After a while a menu will popup - select with pen and press on "1. Com adj setting."
4. You can use arrows up/down/left/right for chaning values. When you found best settings press on "Update" onscreen.
5. Select "2. LCD Phase Setting" and use same procedure as 4.
6. Now select "Page up" three times and selec "Extra menu" and then "9. Reset".
10. Turn on Zaurus after power off and then try the above "dillo test".

Just to make it even a bit clearer, it seems that with the Maintenance Menu you can precisely regulate one or more Display parameter. I played a bit with my C860 (which did NOT have the FLICKERING problem) and GOT my flickering thingy ... (then I restored that display parameter to its correct setting).

It seems to be a factory regulation problem, the flickering that some guys got in their zaurus with some OS.

Why is that Laze ? You initialize display in a certain mode (frecuency or whatever) that is NOT the official zaurus rom threshold ? If I correctly recall, from the overclocking program that is included with pdaxrom, couldn't you change more than one "adjustment" ? maybe ram frecuency and/or processor frecuency, even slightly displaced, makes this regulation problem to surface ?

Welp ... I was just wondering

I still have the problem.  My setting is at 114 and there is still a light flicker, which has been there since day 1.  As noted previously, Cacko has no such problem.

Also, if it were a hardware setting issue, I again have to ask why would it happen in pdaXrom and not Cacko?  If it's an init issue, then I would think pdaXrom could be modified somehow to init in a similar manner as Cacko.  I'm only throwing out thoughts; I have no idea on how this can be fixed.

I will promise you this: If it can be fixed, I guarantee a $100 donation.  Not trying to bribe.  I plan on doing a $25 donation this week, even though I'm using Cacko.  The $100 would be on top of that, because I'd really like to use pdaXrom.

It doesn't have to be exactly 114! The actual value depends on your hardware - ex. on one of my Z it was 115, but 122 on another one... Change the value and see, which number removes all flicker...

PRESS THE UPDATE RECTANGLE ON SCREEN !!

My setting was 116 I set it to 108 and

FLICKERING IS GONE!

The cat 75 > /proc/driver/w100/fastsysclk - doesn't seem to fix some of the problems - and btw. it set back to 100 on C860 when screen is rotated back and forth.

Com: 114
Phase: 5

I detect a very small flicker in title bar, nothing as bad as most LCD screens though.
