Cannot Sync With Palm Desktop

Just got a 6000L.  It  is replacing an old Palm lllxe.  So I would like to move my info from the palm desktop to the Zaurus.
However, ever time I try intellisync it gives me the following error:
   "Could not find a Palm Desktop data file. After closing this message box you will need to open Palm Desktop application then close it again before re-running the synchronization."
I tried this with no luck.  Unistalled palm desktop and reinstalled.  Unistalled intellisync and reinstalled.  Both with the same results. (done this twice)  Have not been able to find anything on the Sharp or sync web sites.  Also searched this forum.  Seems everyone is getting it to work.
Not sure what I missing but would appreciate some help.

My config:
              6000L ;  Port config USB I/O (default)
                           OS Sharp kernel 2.4.18

              PC;  Win2K, sp4
                      Palm desktop 4.1.4 (hot sync has been unistalled)

This is just a suggestion.  You could try to directly transfer the information from the Palm to the Zaurus via IR.  I have not done this myself, so I don't know what files to transfer or  the exact proceedure, but you could search for IR transfers in the site to find that info.

I did IR tranfer from my old Handspring Palm device to the Z6K. It is working fairly for most of the stuff, but there is still some data I was unable to transfer due to some unknown problem with the IR which after sometime doesn't work anymore. Lost synchronization, signal or something like that. I needed to transfer my stuff in small chunks rather than reason size blocks. In theory, it should have been possible to transfer addresses from the addressbook by categories, in practice I had to transfer each address once at a time.

The conversion programs existing for .pdb files won't work for the Z6K since they convert from .pdb to XML and Z6K doesn't use this format anymore, it is using the DTM databases format instead. I am not aware of a conversion tool from .pdb to DTM or XML to DTM.

You will find some old stuff in the FAQ or HOWTO about beam transfer. Basically, just beam receive on the Z.

I had the same error message you received after I installed a new version of Palm Desktop. Version 4.0.1 works fine; version 4.1.4 does not. If you can find an earlier of version of Palm Desktop, you migth be able to get the sync to work properly.

Going to Palm desktop 4.0.1 did the trick.  Eveything sync and transfered the first time.
I will need to do some editing but that is a small price.
I am going to try the IR transfer in the future.
 
But it looks like things are not going to be easy.   The supplied USB cable fits into the cradle but  not directly into the Z. At first thought I was going nuts but  I measured the adapter on the Z and it is slightly smaller at the top than the cable.  Don't want to monkey with it while under warranty. Oh well looks like it's six days old and it will be out for repair.  Just hope they are quick about turning it around.



edit:  did a little research and found out that the dock and Z have diffent type USB ports.
Guess I should a little more reading next time......

Yeah... there *is* a special cable someone makes that plugs into the Zaurus's cradle connection and connects to the PC USB port. Can't remember the link though. Wi-fi sync works better for me personally.

In case you were not aware, there is a forum section on the Z6K, so, perhaps you should consider monitoring it and post there when it is Z6K related.

I hope we will soon have a revamped site and be able to add all this info in updated HOWTOs...
