Oz 3.5.2 "check Backup Batter !" Bootup Hang

I am relatively new to the inner workings of linux and wanted to install oz as opportunity for further exploration

I flashed my 5500 with oz 3.5.2 and opie. Flashed fine but when I went to bootup up for the first time it comes up with the text

"check backup battery !"

and then waits for 10mins of so and comes up with the txt

"comodj = 127,44414d43,44414d43"

and then does nothing.

What's going on? Assuming the backup battery needs replacing ;-), why should this impede oz booting up? Is something going wrong? Is there some way to force a boot?

Don't know if it's related, but before this I get a bunch of

"Magic bitmask 0x1985 not found at ... using ... instead"

messages.

A couple ideas:

Did you remember to hit the reset button again after the flash was done?
Are you sure both files were named correctly on the CF card (zImage and initrd.bin)? ZIMAGE is not the same as zImage.

I'd try redownloading the image and reflashing.  Maybe the image was corrupted somehow.  The first time I flashed 3.5.2 it didn't work out right (different error than yours), but after I redownloaded the image and reflashed it's been working pretty well since then. Hope this helps.

I think you can ignore the "check backup battery" message; unless someone's patched the kernel for this release, the backup battery status is never checked (take a look in logread and you'll see the message on your normally working 5500s too).

I don't know about the second error.

I had a look at the checksums and low and behold, the checksum on the CF card was wrong - tho the d/l'd version was right.

Flashed it again and it worked :-)
